Job Description

This role can be performed from either our Nine head office in Sydney or Melbourne.

Nine are seeking applications for the newly created role of Head of Premium Content in our Metro Publishing team.

This role will lead the functions of Audio & Video, Presentation and ‘Explainer’ content across The Sydney Morning Herald, The Age, Brisbane Times and WAtoday newsrooms. Reporting directly to the Executive Editor, this role will play a critical role in driving and shaping the strategic direction of the business in the coming few years.

The heart of this role is to lead the premium content teams, presentation, video/audio and explainers.  We foresee significant growth in these areas in the coming years and, as such, are seeking a leader who is inspired by the challenge to achieve that growth.

Specifically, the role will require you to:

  • Translate strategic direction at an executive level into operational results across these three units
  • Identify new and innovative opportunities to build subscriber growth and engagement
  • Work closely with editors across metro to ensure premium content channels support and promote editorial initiatives
  • Liaise with Audience Development team to ensure product and content offerings align with audience insights and feedback
  • Effectively lead the Premium Content teams to ensure a high standard of performance and engagement
  • Set goals across the function and use data and metrics to measure results
  • Drive new projects and initiatives as required

Nine supports flexible working arrangements, subject to the needs of individual jobs.  Please note that this role will require some regular work on evenings and on weekends as required.

Qualifications

For this role, we are looking for a strong leader who has the ability to think strategically whilst also being able to translate strategic direction into operational actions. You will have a strong editorial background with excellent planning and organisational skills. You will be adept at working collaboratively with other editors across Metro in order to deliver on our strategic vision. You will be focused on delivering high-quality products and content for our readers and will maintain a strong alignment with the Audience Development team. 

You will have at least five years' experience in a leadership role in a digital newsroom, and a deep understanding of best practice, using data to build engagement, and content distribution.
