About the job 

Nielsen Brandbank’s database estate consists of SQL Server databases in several different environments, hosted in Microsoft Azure. The Junior Database Administrator will be responsible for maintaining the performance, security, integrity, recovery, and scalability of the SQL Server database environments. 

 

Responsibilities 

  • Maintain the integrity and performance of the various environments through maintenance routines. 

  • Ensure backups and recoverability of databases. 

  • Maintain the high availability and disaster recovery systems including performing failover and failback. 

  • Troubleshoot SQL Agent jobs and SSIS package failures. 

  • Production monitoring of performance, capacity, and scalability including raising archiving requirements. 

  • Software release deployment and operational script deployment from other IT teams. 

  • Database code review and source control governance. 

  • Take part in environment database refreshes. 

  • Control access permissions and privileges. 

  • Continual performance tuning and optimization. 

  • Participate in the team’s project roadmap. 

  • Maintain and enhance technical documentation. 

  • Provide technical line support and assist other teams such as our development teams. 

Qualifications & Role Requirements (Essential) 

  • Significant experience in Microsoft SQL Server Administration with production support experience. 

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Clustering and virtualization concepts. 

  • Good communication skills, both written and verbal in English. 

  • Ability to work in a global cross-functional team environment. 

  • Strong drive to learn, develop, and continually improve and automate the estate. 

  • Demonstrable analytical and problem-solving skills. 

Preferred Skills: 

  • Experience with Redgate Tools. 

  • Experience with Power BI Reports Server. 

  • Experience with Powershell. 

  • ITIL and Agile practices. 

  • Experience with cloud-hosted databases. 

  • Experience with other database technologies such as NoSQL.
