At Fenix-Newhaul, we transport iron ore from our Iron Ridge mine 65kms north of Cue to Geraldton Port. This is the second highest grade ore in Australia and demands a significant price premium.

We have a strong hedging position providing a level of price protection, which provides long-term certainty for the Iron Ridge deposit and the Fenix-Newhaul team.

Job Description

With expansion on the horizon, we are excited to offer a new opportunity to a highly motivated individual to join our team as an Apprentice Heavy Duty Diesel Mechanic at our Geraldton Workshop. This is a 4-year apprenticeship where you will complete a Certificate 3 in Heavy Commercial Vehicle Mechanical Technology.

Who is our ideal candidate?

The ideal candidate for the Apprentice Heavy Duty Diesel Fitter position is someone who possesses a genuine interest in mechanics and a strong desire to pursue a career in diesel engine maintenance and repair.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Assist workshop mechanics with diagnosing, troubleshooting, and repairing mechanical and electrical faults in heavy-duty diesel engines, transmissions, and hydraulic systems.
  • Learn to perform routine maintenance tasks such as oil changes, filter replacements, and lubrication of equipment.
  • Assist workshop mechanics in disassembling and reassembling engines and components for repair or overhaul.
  • Participate in the inspection of equipment to identify defects or potential issues.
  • Learn to use diagnostic tools and equipment to conduct tests and assessments on machinery.
  • Adhere to safety protocols and procedures at all times to ensure a safe working environment.
  • Ensure timely completion and submission of all learning and assessment requirements associated with the Traineeship.
  • Attend all scheduled TAFE sessions and learning activities according to your timetable.

This is a permanent, full-time opportunity, based in Geraldton working Monday - Friday.

Qualifications

  • Must be an Australian citizen/and or Permanent Resident
  • Mechanically minded with a genuine interest in the trade
  • Commit to a Full time 4-year apprenticeship, including practical studies.
  • Strong sense of self-motivation with a 'can do' attitude.
  • Current driver’s C Cass License
  • Certificate II in Automotive or demonstrated experience woudl be desirable but not essentoial
