POSITION SUMMARY
The Production Manager supports the New World Symphony (NWS) / New World Center (NWC), Technical Director and the Vice President, Program Operations by providing excellent technical, production, and customer service to ensure a positive experience for all artists, coaches, Fellows, staff, patrons and clients with associated activities and/or events. As directed by the Technical Director, the Production Manager works with a high degree of independence overseeing designated activities and events by making informed decisions that are in the best interest of NWS/NWC and its internal and external clients, advising the Technical Director of any technical and production operational issues, and maintaining strong communications with internal departments and external clients to evaluate and identify strategies to provide the highest quality experiences.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- At the direction of the Technical Director, serves as ‘Supervisor on Duty’ and oversees the work of full- and part-time Production Technicians and any contract labor for designated NWS-related activities held at NWC, elsewhere in the Miami area, and on domestic and international tours
- Works closely with the Technical Director and Vice President, Program Operations in managing and facilitating the day-to-day logistical and technical requirements of NWS programs and other institutional activities
- In conjunction with the Technical Director, Vice President of Business Development, and Director of Business Development, plans and manages the production of designated third-party activities held at the NWC, and acts as liaison to third-party organizations regarding their logistical and technical requirements as assigned
- At the direction of the Technical Director, schedules and supervises full-time and part-time Production Technicians and outside contract labor for designated third-party rental and NWS events
- Oversees the recruitment, hiring, and required training of full-time and part-time Production Technicians to ensure a well-rounded, technically proficient team of technicians
- Serves as Stage Manager for NWS-related and third-party activities held at NWC as assigned and calls all necessary stage entrance, audio, lighting and projection cues
- Oversees setting the stage according to the conductor’s specifications and to provide the best possible learning environment for Fellows and working environment for guest artists and musicians
- Plans, supervises and participates in stage changes during rehearsals and concerts as assigned.
- Participates in all other matters related to the daily operations of the stage and elsewhere in the Miami area, and on domestic and international tours
- Assists the Technical Director in maintaining inventory of all NWS-owned stage-related equipment and instruments; ensures stage-related equipment is properly maintained as assigned
- Assists the Technical director in managing stage- and equipment-related budgets
- Carries out all necessary safety procedures and takes appropriate action to address any safety related issues
- Participates in weekly departmental and other production meetings
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Supervises full-time and part-time Production Technicians and contract labor (as needed)
Qualifications
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s Degree in Theater Production or a related field
- Minimum of three years of theatrical production experience, preferably at music school, orchestra or other performing arts organization
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Confirmed management, supervisory and organizational skills
- Ability to interact effectively as both leader and teammate with a variety of personalities
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Attention to detail and to the highest standards of theatrical production and concert presentation
- Working knowledge of production systems including lighting, audio, video, projection, staging, rigging, CAD software, and power distribution systems
- Knowledge of OSHA safety standards for arena and performing arts venues
- Ability to lead numerous projects and productions simultaneously in a demanding, multi-activity work environment
- Working familiarity with classical orchestral and chamber music preferred

- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including many nights and weekends
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
- Required to consistently exert various types of physical exertion, including prolonged reaching, bending, kneeling, lifting, climbing stairs and ladders and walking long distances to access all areas of the facility
