New England Donor Services (NEDS) coordinates organ and tissue donation in Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, the eastern counties of Vermont and Bermuda. Responsible for one of the largest of the 56 Organ Procurement Organizations (OPOs) that make up the nation’s donation system, NEDS works with over 200 hospitals and serves 14 million people in our region, screening nearly 55,000 potential donor referrals annually. With approximately $110M in operating revenues, NEDS employs 300 clinical and non-clinical staff members throughout New England and across the country.

Job Description

The Staff Accountant role supports the Finance Department in the accounting activities and month end closing. 

  • Prepares month end journal entries for accruals, prepaid expenses and credit card transactions.
  • Maintains fixed asset module and monthly depreciation entries and schedules.  Enters and codes fixed asset purchases.
  • Prepares balance sheet account reconciliations on a monthly or quarterly basis.
  • Verifies and posts all general and donor accounts payable batches to the general ledger daily. Monitors coding of bills for proper allocation to accounts.  Works with Finance staff and outside vendors to resolve payment issues.
  • Prepares and maintains general ledger account reconciliations, including inter-company transactions.
  • Prepares monthly bank account reconciliations.
  • Prepares monthly investment account reconciliations.
  • Coordinates payments, processes billing and assists with administration of DPH Grant.
  • Supports the preparation of the annual budget.
  • Prepares schedules for year end and annual audit.
  • Processes 1099’s for submission to the vendors, the IRS and state tax authorities.
  • Provides back-up for all general accounting functions including A/P, A/R and Payroll as required.
  • Participates in various projects including system implementations and upgrades.
  • Performs other tasks and projects as requested by the Accounting Manager, Director of Finance and SVP/CFO.

Interpersonal and Communication Skills:  strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.  Ability to critically think, problem solve, and work productively both independently and as a team participant. Skilled in active listening and proven ability to handle sensitive and confidential information.

Data Analysis: ability to collect, analyze, and present data to identify patterns, trends, and relationships among variables.

Computer & Application Literacy: proficiency Microsoft Office suite, Learning Management Systems, Slack as well as ability to navigate internet.

Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and 1-4 years relevant experience, required.
  • Experience in a healthcare and/or non-profit field a plus.
  • Experience with Great Plains Dynamics, Microsoft Business Central or similar accounting program.
