Job Description

PRIMARY PURPOSE:

 

The Operating Mechanic operates and maintains energy production equipment to assure system requirements are within specifications. The Operating Mechanic performs a variety of assignments requiring a high degree of knowledge in the mechanical field.

 

SPECIFIC DUTIES:

 

  • Starts stops and adjusts equipment as needed to maintain system reliability, efficiency, and environmental compliance.
  • Schedules and coordinates fuel deliveries.
  • Takes scheduled readings, records data and maintains daily log of shift events.
  • Reviews and maintains operational and maintenance data and information.
  • Maintains proper lubrication of equipment.
  • Basic pipefitting skills.
  • Basic knowledge of safe rigging and hoisting techniques.
  • Uses precision tools in a proficient manner, i.e, calipers, micrometers, dial indicators, etc.
  • Uses all hand and power tools to maintain/repair equipment.
  • Installs, overhauls, repairs and maintains all types of mechanical equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret equipment manuals and blueprints.
  • Assist in training other Operating Mechanics.
  • Keep work areas clean and orderly and maintain safe working conditions.
  • Assist others as required.
  • All other related duties.

Qualifications

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

 

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid MA Second Class Fireman’s License REQUIRED
  • Valid MA HVAC Technician’s License

 

PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT/WORKING CONDITIONS:

 

  • Required to wear a half face respirator or powered air respirators (PAPR) where proper safety procedures warrant their use.
  • Required to lift and/or operate machinery, tools, etc., weighing up to 50 pounds, unassisted.
  • Required to work in confined spaces
  • Required climbing ladders and stairs.
  • Required working in hot areas.
