Job Description

Nearmap is looking for an Engineering Manager to own the development and evolution of our public-facing digital platform — including nearmap.com. This is a high-impact, autonomous role that blends hands-on technical leadership with direct ownership of delivery and the marketing stakeholder relationship. Our website is a finely tuned conversion machine — powering personalisation, eCommerce, interactive product experiences, and A/B testing. You will be the engineering force behind all of that. You'll translate business requirements into high-quality, scalable web solutions and operate with a high degree of autonomy, balancing speed, quality, and commercial outcomes without reliance on a dedicated PM or TPM function.

What you'll do

  • Lead the design and implementation of web solutions supporting Nearmap's digital presence and commercial goals.
  • Own end-to-end delivery for website initiatives — from requirement clarification through to production release.
  • Act as the primary technical point of contact for Marketing and business stakeholders.
  • Maintain high standards of code quality, testing, and maintainability across the web platform.
  • Lead and support a small team of engineers, fostering a collaborative and high-performing environment.

Qualifications

  • Proven track record building and delivering modern web applications, ideally including high-traffic marketing or eCommerce sites.
  • Background in a technical leadership or senior engineering role, comfortable operating without a PM or TPM function.
  • Strong hands-on experience with Storyblok or a comparable headless CMS (Contentful, Sanity, or similar).
  • Experience working directly with non-technical stakeholders such as Marketing and Design, owning the relationship end-to-end.
  • Strong frontend engineering skills across JavaScript/TypeScript, HTML, and CSS — with deep React and Next.js experience.
  • Solid understanding of web performance, SEO, accessibility, and conversion optimisation.
  • Ability to design scalable, maintainable frontend architectures; exposure to personalisation, auth integration, or eCommerce is a plus.
