Job Description
We are seeking a Maintenance Associate to join our team here at Near North Montessori School!
Position Overview:
The Maintenance Associate is responsible for cleaning and maintaining the Near North Montessori (NNM) school campus, within and around the building and other designated areas. This position can operate equipment and systems with an eye for detail and care for the school community.
Schedule: 40 hours per week, typically Monday through Friday, with 2:00pm to 10:00pm shift during the school year, with adjustments or additional time as needed. This position will require regular work hours throughout the summer.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
Levels I include:
Clean designated area as scheduled, including: classrooms, storerooms, corridors, stairways, janitor's closets, and shop areas. Sweep, dry and wet mop floors using various equipment and tools. Clean and spot clean rugged areas using vacuum cleaners and hand spot cleaners. Dust, wax, and polish furniture in shared community spaces. Clean, scrub, maintain sinks and countertops in shared community spaces. Empty trash, recycling and compost. Wash walls, woodwork and windows; clean and polish metal surfaces
Arrange furnishings and equipment for the purpose of providing adequate preparation for school activities, meetings and events as needed
Keep restrooms, locker room, pool deck, and shower stalls in clean, orderly, and sanitary condition. Sweep, scrub, and mop floors. Clean, disinfect, and deodorize lavatories, urinals, and toilet bowls. Clean mirrors, sinks, and water fountains. Dust ledges and woodwork. Scrub shower stalls and clean out shower drain of hair as needed. Replace toilet tissue, hand towels, soap, and shampoo
Note condition of building - reporting concerns such as broken windows, water leaks, clogged drains, and other conditions requiring maintenance to supervisor/s
Operate heating, A/C, ventilation, electrical and mechanical systems at a basic level, typically limited to turning equipment on/off and/or setting day/night cycles
Assist in the maintenance of lawns, landscaping, concrete, blacktop, and rubber surfaces and playgrounds, including pedestrian walkways snow and ice removal
Attend in-service meetings and training (e.g. instructions on cleaning methods, cleaning solvents, floor care, first aid, floor machines, rug cleaners etc.) for the purpose of receiving of maintaining a sanitary, safe, attractive environment
Respond to immediate safety and/or operational concerns (e.g. facility damage, alarms, etc.) for the purpose of taking appropriate action to help resolve immediate safety issues and maintaining a functioning physical and educational environment
Perform work at heights up to approximately 20 feet using ladders and/or scaffolding for the purpose of cleaning, changing lights, replacing ceiling tiles
Operate security systems and secure building and grounds at the conclusion of shift
Work a revised schedule and substitute for other maintenance associates as necessary during summer and other breaks, holidays and closings
Assists in the performance of repairs and maintenance duties during scheduled work days when regular school is closed and during scheduled summer months (e.g. painting, concrete work, carpentry, etc.)
Work as an assistant to building and facilities staff performing a variety of tasks including but not limited to electrical, plumbing, welding, furniture making, metal fabrication, repair of motors, etc.
Operate other tools and equipment when assigned and trained for purposes of floor refinishing and maintenance, wood and other surfacing finishes, assisting with high level repairs and more
Acquire professional training in the field by attending conferences, training workshops and other related activities
Perform other duties and responsibilities as required, assigned, or requested
Qualifications
- High School Diploma preferred or equivalent skill gained from working experience
- Ability to work under limited supervision and to communicate well with co-workers
- Experience cleaning and maintaining buildings
- Ability to identify building concerns or equipment malfunction
- Demonstrated positive attitude towards colleagues, ability to work cooperatively and willingness to accept instructions and training
Additional Information
Pay Information: The salary range for this position is $40,000 - $45,000 based on skills and experience.
