Job Description

We are seeking a School Counselor to join our student wellness team! Working closely with administration, teachers, parents, and outside professionals, the Counselor will help identify and support social, emotional, and health-related issues with individual students as well as with student groups. The School Counselor will be a part of the Student Support team, reporting to the Wellness Director. 

Schedule: 40 hours per week, typically Monday through Friday, with shifts falling between 8:00 am and 6:00 pm during the school year, with adjustments or additional time as needed. This is school year role, starting in late August and ending in mid June each year. There will be an opportunity to work summer camps if desired. We are searching for someone to start as soon as practicable for the remainder of the 23/24 school year.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Conduct social-emotional support work for students on behalf of the school, consulting regularly with teachers, families and outside providers 

  • Provide non-clinical counseling to students as an in-school resource 

  • Refer students and families to outside providers, as recommended by Student Wellness Director

  • Participate in student support meetings 

  • Facilitate social-emotional skill-building groups

  • Maintain and monitor the use of a student wellness space

  • Support teachers and other faculty, serving as a resource and expert on social-emotional and mental health topics

  • Create in-school behavioral plans for students and support teachers in the implementation of social-emotional and behavioral accommodations

  • Assist with school-wide initiatives that address social/emotional and mental health topics including parent education activities

  • Occasional crisis management and risk assessment with students in need of immediate mental health attention

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree, and licensed mental health professional in Clinical Psychology, Counseling Psychology, Educational Psychology, Social Work, School Counseling, or Marriage and Family Therapy are requirements
  • Experience providing support to children, adolescents and families; school setting preferred

  • Experience running social-emotional groups for school-age children

  • Excellent communication skills, sound judgment and emotional maturity

  • Demonstrated ability to work well with teams

  • Demonstrated commitment to cultural competency, and developing skills to support a diverse student population

Additional Information

Full-time employment to start as soon as possible for the remainder of the 2023/24 school year, with an opportunity to include summer work.

  • Pay Information: Eligible for an exempt salary starting at $52,500 per year.
