The Department of Biology of the School of Science and Humanities seeks candidates for a Full Professor faculty position with a strong research portfolio in biomedical sciences with an emphasis on genetics that may include also related areas such as systems genetics or evolutionary genetics.
It is expected that applicants can contribute to the teaching of the required bachelor program course Genetics and related electives on undergraduate and graduate levels.

Contracts are for a period of three years and are renewable upon positive review.

Successful applicants will have the following qualifications:
- Ph.D. degree in the area of biomedical sciences from an accredited institution;
- demonstrated excellence in basic biomedical research reflected by high impact
factor journal publications; 
- excellent teaching skills (minimum three years classroom teaching record on
university undergraduate and/or graduate levels) and academic mentoring
experiences;
- demonstrated successful student research supervision at doctoral, master, and
bachelor levels
- demonstrated potential to establish a vigorous research program and productive
collaborative research;
- demonstrated commitment to maintaining a collegial and inclusive work
environment.

There are no start-up packages for these appointments but there are regular calls for applications for intra-mural Social Development Fund (10,000 USD for 1 year), Faculty Competitive Research Development Grant (150,000 USD for 3 years), Collaborative Research Proposal grants (450,000 USD for 3 years) and extra-mural grant calls from the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan. A Core Facility with a range of advanced research instruments is available to all NU faculty. Research is organized in thematic clusters and research labs are housed in a dedicated research building.

The academic rank will be determined according to the successful candidate's teaching and work experience and the relevant research productivity.
