Job Description

1.       TA is tasked with the following functions:

1)  Attend a minimum of 90 % of lectures (or equivalent) for the relevant course;

2)  Teach laboratory, discussion or recitation sections or equivalent classes separate from the primary lecture, including the assignment of graded assessments, act as grades for class-wide exams, or engage in other instructional activities, subject to the restrictions listed in these Regulations;

3)  Provide support for the School research projects, subject to the written approval of their supervisor;

4)  Give lectures (less than 10% of the numbers of lectures in the course) if they are under the direct guidance of the appropriate faculty member and if the Dean of the School has provided written permission.

5)  Assisting with the preparation of learning materials and students assignments.

6)  Tutoring and assisting students individually or in small groups in order to help them master assignments and to reinforce learning concepts presented by the Professor(s).

7)  Assistance in grading homework and tests, computing and recording the results, using answer sheets or electronic marking devices.

8)  Contributing to the development and implementation of the curriculum.

9)  Assist the faculty members with preparation of learning materials, conducting discussions/study sessions that supplement faculty lectures.

10)  Preparation of consumables and equipment for the laboratory classes.

11)  Holding office hours and providing support for research projects.

12)  participation in the process, assessment, management, monitoring of risks within the framework of the supervised area;

13) timely and high-quality execution of orders of the Department Chair and/or the Dean of the School within the framework of their duties and powers.

2.  In order to fulfill abovementioned functions, TA must execute following duties:

1)  timely and proper execution of tasks of the Department Chair and/or the Dean;

2)  observe the requirements of the legislation of the Republic of Kazakhstan and internal documents of the University and School;

3)  perform job duties in good faith;

4)  strictly respect labor and performance discipline;

5)  observe provision of the University`s mandatory internal documents;

6)  in case of dismissal or transfer to another position –pass all paper and digital information, to another person, specified by the Dean, under act of acceptance-transfer, and submit the inventory assets to the accountable officers of the University.

Qualifications

1.    Bachelor degree or its equivalent from a higher education institution with English language of instruction; Master’s degree is preferred
2.    Commitment, flexibility, punctuality, collaboration, honesty, integrity, cultural sensitivity are required.
3.    Excellent English language communication skills are required because NU is an English-speaking working environment and teaching is conducted in English. Knowledge of Russian and Kazakh languages is a plus.
4.    Fluency in MS Office is required. Familiarity with Moodle 

Additional Information

  • 40 hours per week
  • 3 months probation period
