Job Description

Laboratory Assistants
1)    provide assistance in conducting laboratory sessions in support of the teaching and research mission of the School;
2)    maintains laboratory equipment in good working conditions;
3)    prepares plans for laboratory classes in accordance with the request of the faculty members and the department chair;
4)    prepares required equipment and consumables;
5)    works closely with teaching assistants and faculty members of the school in preparation of laboratory sessions;
6)    participates in acceptance, inspection, testing, maintenance and inventory of the purchased equipment and supplies for the laboratory;
7)    executes activities related to the installation, maintenance, configuration and testing of laboratory equipment;
8)    participates in formation of budget requests for laboratories for the corresponding financial year;
9)    ensures the proper maintenance and safe use of laboratory facilities in accordance with the needs of laboratory users, operating regulations and safety regulations;
10)    conducts pilot tests for laboratory experiments;
11)    trains the School’s staff and students on the safe and proper use of equipment;
12)    analyses the need for laboratory equipment, consumables and reagents, and processes applications for purchasing these items;
13)    maintains an adequate inventory of laboratory equipment, consumables and reagents;
14)    implements the safety plan of the school and the university, including maintenance of records;
15)    assists in course related activities and other duties related to the academic and research missions of the school as assigned by Senior Laboratory Coordinator, Laboratory Coordinator, Department Chair or Dean.

 

Qualifications

1)    Bachelor or Master degree in the following fields: Biology, Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, Microbiology, Genetics, Biotechnology, Biochemistry, or other closely-related fields relevant for this position;
2)    at least one year experience of working with laboratory equipment;
3)    excellent knowledge of safety basics during the work on laboratory equipment;
4)    communication and organizational skills;
5)    good analytical and critical thinking skills;
6)    team-work and independent work skills;
7)    problem-solving ability;
8)    fluent in English, Kazakh and Russian (written and oral);
9)    fluency in MS Office is required. 

 

Additional Information

  • 10 hours per week
  • 3 months probation period
