Company Description

Energetic Cosmos Laboratory (ECL http://ecl.nu.edu.kz) is a world-class research lab headed by Nobel Laureate Professor George Smoot. The lab is located at Nazarbayev University (NU) in Nur-Sultan, the capital of Kazakhstan.  ECL conducts research in cosmology (e.g. dark energy, inflation, gravitational lensing) and the transient sky (gamma-ray bursts or GRBs, fast radio bursts or FRBs, and transient optical signals in the microsecond - nanosecond regime). We seek candidates interested in cutting-edge research with experience in observation, instrumentation, and theory/data science. The ECL project is implemented with the collaboration of University of California in Berkeley and Astrophysics Institute in Paris

Job Description

Key and functional tasks of the post

- to work with electronics hardware or firmware coding;

- to do remote observations from NU

- Participation in the manufacturing of parts and components of automation systems;

- Testing of automation systems;

- Maintenance of the equipment;

- Collaboration with the research team on the issues of working with the equipment;

- Working with the equipment database.

- Conducting procurement of goods/equipment/ consumables

Qualifications

 Education

Higher, masters, specialist or bachelor’s degree in:

-Physics

-Engineering science

-Computer science

-Robotics

Desired professional experience (duration, region, industry, etc.)

Desirable having small research work experience;

Knowledge in physics or astronomy;

Knowledge in the relevant field of science;

Fundamental and / or applied research experience;

Experience in English.

Professional knowledge and personal characteristics

- Theoretical background in physics, mathematics, electrical engineering, electronics or mechanics;

- Knowledge of installation methods and adjustment of electronic equipment;

- Knowledge of rules and procedures of testing the electrical equipment and taking electrical measurements;

- Knowledge of rules, regulations, safety requirements, labor protection, fire safety and industrial hygiene;

- Hardworking and team working.

Language proficiency level

Intermediate spoken and written skills in English

Personal computer skills (programs, degree of ownership)

Advanced user of PC, knowledge of programming languages. Experience in working with Linux.
