Job Description

The Department of Sociology and Anthropology at Nazarbayev University invites applications for an open rank Anthropology position to begin in August 2022. We seek a highly qualified Anthropologist (Archaeologist, Biological or Cultural Anthropologist) with commitment to the four-field approach. We are particularly interested in candidates with specialization in the following areas: archaeometry, biomolecular anthropology, economy and development, environment and sustainability, heritage studies, and/or the historic period. A focus on the Eurasian region is desirable but not essential. The candidate should be able to demonstrate in their cover letter a willingness to integrate into the existing program at Nazarbayev University and evidence of, or a plan to build, research partnerships outside the university.

Qualifications

Essential Qualifications

  • PhD in Anthropology from an accredited and recognized international university (ABD at time of application will be considered, but PhD must be in hand at time of appointment, and current PhD holders will be given priority);

·         An active research agenda (as evidenced by prior peer-reviewed publications or demonstrated ability to publish immediately upon appointment);

  • Teaching experience at university level;
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills;
  • Commitment to maintaining a collegial and inclusive work environment.

The successful candidate will be expected to teach introductory courses as well as upper-level courses in Anthropology at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Responsibilities include a 2/2 teaching load, research, and departmental and school service. The University offers opportunities for research support. This is a three-year appointment with the possibility of renewal.
