Nazarbayev University was launched in 2010 as a premier national and regional university, partnering with some of the most internationally recognized names in higher education. The School of Science and Humanities (SSH) partner is the University of Wisconsin-Madison. The Department of Sociology and Anthropology at Nazarbayev University invites applications for three open rank positions (assistant professor/associate professor/professor) in any area of Sociology to begin in Fall 2022.

We are seeking scholars with expertise in quantitative methods for two of these positions, with knowledge of digital research methods desirable but not essential. For all positions a focus on the Eurasian region is also desirable but not essential.

Essential Qualifications:

●  a PhD in Sociology from an accredited and recognized international university (ABD at time of application will be considered, but PhD must be hand before taking up the job);

● Teaching experience at university level;

●  An active research agenda (as evidenced by prior peer-reviewed publications or demonstrated ability to publish immediately upon appointment);

● Excellent communication and collaboration skills;

● Commitment to maintaining a collegial and inclusive work environment.

The successful candidate will be expected to teach both introductory and upper-level courses in sociology at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Responsibilities include a 2/2 teaching load, research, and departmental and School service including supervision of masters and PhD students. The University offers opportunities for research support. This is a three-year appointment with the possibility of renewal.
