Job Description

Laboratory Assistant is imposed with the following functions:

1)           collaboration with the faculty and Teaching Assistants of the School in the preparation of laboratory sessions;

2)           preparation of necessary consumables and equipment for laboratory sessions;

3)           conducting modeling of laboratory sessions together with Teaching Assistants;

4)           conducting regular visits of the laboratories;

5)           performing activities related to the installation, maintenance, configuration, and ongoing testing of laboratory equipment;

6)           maintaining laboratory equipment in good working condition, if necessary, with the assistance of the Office of the Provost - Engineering and Technical Services;

7)           inventory of laboratory equipment and consumables on a regular basis;

8)           determining the need for protective equipment and other necessary supplies for laboratories in conjunction with the Health and Safety Department (hereinafter referred to as HSD);

9)           keeping records in log books of instruction on safety and labor protection in the laboratory (instruction in the workplace);

10)      development of standard operating procedures (SOP) for equipment and health and safety instructions for potentially dangerous types of work in conjunction with the HSD;  

11)      conducting training sessions on the use of equipment for persons assigned to work in the laboratory;

12)      assistance in preparing the budget requests for the relevant reporting period, including preparation of justifications;

13)      preparation of technical specifications for procurement of goods together with the initiator;

14)      participation in acceptance, verification, testing of the purchased equipment and consumables for the laboratory as a member of the acceptance committee;

15)      participation in the annual inventory of fixed assets of the School together with interested structural divisions of the University;

16)      preparation of documents for writing off the necessary consumables from the University's warehouses;

17)      providing reports, information and data at the request of the structural divisions and organizations of the University, in agreement with the School's management, within the competence;

18)      ensuring the safety of documents within the framework of supervised direction;

19)      maintaining correspondence within the scope of his/her functional responsibilities;

20)      participation in identification, evaluation, management and monitoring of risks within the framework of supervised direction;

21)      timely and proper fulfillment of other orders of the Dean and the Head of School and the University management within the framework of his/her responsibilities and powers.

6. In order to perform the above functions, Laboratory Assistant is obliged to:

1)           timely and proper execution of tasks of the Dean, Head of division and the University`s management;

2)           observe the requirements of the legislation of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the University`s internal regulations;

3)           perform job duties in good faith;

4)           strictly respect labor and performance discipline;

5)           observe provision of the University`s mandatory internal documents;

6)           in case of dismissal or transfer to another position –pass all paper and digital information, to another person, specified by the Head, under act of acceptance-transfer, and submit the inventory assets to the accountable officers of the University.

Qualifications

Education

Higher-professional, preferable from the higher education institutions with English language of instruction

Priority specializations:

-      Engineering and Technical;

-      Chemistry and Technologies;

-      Engineering and Construction;

-      Computer Science

Work experience

Required work experience is defined in accordance with standard qualifications for administrative positions at the autonomous organization of education “Nazarbayev University”
