The Department of Languages, Linguistics and Literature of the School of Sciences and Humanities (SSH) at Nazarbayev University is considering applications for a full-time Assistant Professor position with a specialization in General Linguistics, Applied Linguistics, Language Acquisition, Francophone Studies. The ideal candidate will have an interdisciplinary focus whose work cuts across linguistic, regional, and disciplinary boundaries. Candidates with PhDs in the fields of theoretical and applied linguistics, and related disciplines will be considered. The successful candidate will have a demonstrated commitment to program-building and student mentoring, and will be able to complement and build off of our department’s diverse strengths, ranging from comparative literature to descriptive and comparative linguistics, general and areal typology, from cultural productions to discourse analysis, from language-mind-cognition to foreign language learning, particularly Francophone and Romance Studies. We seek a candidate with an exemplary and ongoing record of research, demonstrated excellence in undergraduate and graduate teaching, commitment to active involvement in the life of the Department and the School, and a capability to mentor senior undergraduates in application to graduate programs. An ideal candidate would also have experience in instructional technology, corpus and computational linguistics, including CALL.

This is a three-year appointment with the possibility of renewal, it carries a 2/2 teaching load.

The Department of Languages, Linguistics and Literatures (LLL) at SSH currently has eleven full-time and 3 part-time faculty representing a variety of disciplines in the domain of languages, linguistics and comparative literature. The LLL Department has one of the fastest growing major counts in the School and is adding an array of literature, linguistics and language course offerings in the 2019-2020 academic year. The LLL Department’s program is also integrated into the graduate program in Eurasian Studies, an interdisciplinary MA and PhD program, and thus, an ideal candidate will have an opportunity to contribute to the Eurasian Studies both in research and teaching.
