The Department of History, Philosophy, and Religious Studies of the School of Sciences and Humanities includes 18 members and offers a major in History as well as minors in both History and Philosophy & Religious Studies. Faculty in Philosophy publish actively in leading international journals and are encouraged to teach courses that align with their research interests. The Department of History, Philosophy, and Religious Studies invite applications for three positions in Philosophy to begin in August 2020. The positions are open rank, ranging from Instructor to Full Professor. Contracts are for a period of three years and are renewable upon positive review.

AOS and AOC are open, but successful candidates may be required to contribute to a team-taught introductory Ethics course. The teaching load for ranks from Assistant Professor to Professor is 2+2 with TA support for large classes. Responsibilities include research, and departmental and School service. The standard teaching load for Instructors is 4/4 but a reduction in teaching load may be possible. The University offers opportunities for research support. 

Contracts are for a period of three years and are renewable upon positive review.

Successful applicants for ranks from Assistant Professor to Professor will have the following qualifications:

• a Ph.D. in Philosophy or related field (ABD at time of application will be considered, but Ph.D. must be in hand at the time of appointment);
• potential or track record of excellence in research, teaching, and service;
• An active research agenda (as evidenced by prior peer-reviewed publications or demonstrated ability to publish upon appointment);
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills;
• Commitment to maintaining a collegial and inclusive work environment. 

Successful applicants for the Instructor position should have an MA degree in Philosophy or a related field by the start date and will be expected to demonstrate potential for teaching excellence. The standard teaching load for instructors is 4/4. In some cases, a reduction in teaching load may be possible.
