Job Description

Assistant is imposed with the following functions:

1) grading essays, assignments and tests of each semester of his or her role as an Assistant, assistance to the teacher of the appointed courses of undergraduate programs;

2) proctoring exams only starting from/during the second semester of his or her role as an Assistant;

3) assistance with preparation of learning materials and student assignments;

4) attend designated lectures undergraduate and master degree programs (if he/she has appropriate qualifications in accordance with the Regulations);

5) hold office hours and meeting with students, to consult students about the courses he/she assists to teach;

6) corresponding with students via email on topics relevant to the assigned course;

7) provision of feedback on the attended courses and proposal on their enhancement;

8) teaching laboratory, discussion or recitation sections or equivalent classes separate from the primary lecture, including the assignment of graded assessments;

9) preparation of materials or set-up of required equipment for classes;

10) support and participate in the School’s research projects, subject to the written approval from their Chair and Dean;

11) with the written permission of the Dean and under direct guidance of the designated faculty member, to give not more than 10% of total number of the lectures in the courses of undergraduate and master degree programs (if she/he has appropriate qualifications in accordance with the Regulations);

12) tutoring and assisting students individually or in small groups in order to help them master assignments and to reinforce learning concepts presented by faculty member teaching the course;

13)  assistance in grading homework and tests, computing and recording the results, using answer sheets or electronic marking devices;

14)  contribution to the development and implementation of the undergraduate programs course curriculum;

15) regular attendance to seminars and trainings required by the University;

16) attendance to the University and School required meetings;

17) execution of other duties, related to the academic activities of the School, as assigned by the Chair or Dean;

18) assistance to the faculty in participation in professional development events;

19) assistance to the administrative staff of the School and the Department in the preparation of materials for the submission of issues for consideration by the Academic Council and the Research Council of the University;

20) assistance in the organization of conferences (brief reviews, programs, preparation of information for the website);

21) development of draft programs, abstracts and other required conference materials;

22) preparation of ads draft and upload them on the School’s website;

23) work during the summer term;

24) participation in identification, evaluation, management and monitoring of risks within the framework of supervised direction;

25) timely and proper fulfillment of other orders of the Head of the School and the University management within the framework of his/her official duties and powers.

6.  In order to fulfill the abovementioned functions, Assistant executes following duties:

1) timely and properly execution of tasks of the Chair and the Dean of the School;

2) observe the requirements of the legislation of the Republic of Kazakhstan and internal documents of the University and School;

3) perform job duties in good faith;

4) strictly respect labor and performance discipline;

5) observe provision of the University`s mandatory internal documents;

6) in case of dismissal or transfer to another position –pass all paper and digital information, to another person, specified by the Chair, under act of acceptance-transfer, and submit the inventory assets to the accountable officers of the University.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor degree or its equivalent from a higher education institution with English language of instruction; Master’s degree is preferred
  • Priority specializations:                                                                                      - other mandatory professional experience and competencies necessary to perform the functional duties for the position                                                         - in accordance  with the field of specialization;
  • Professional competencies:

-      High degree of computer literacy;

-      strong Microsoft Office skills;

-      it is desirable to have an average level of possession of programs  in the relevant field of activity;

-      experience of working with Learning Management Systems (Moddle or similar software) is preferred;

-      high analytical and organizational skills;

-      high skills of written and spoken language (English, Kazakh, Russian)
