Job Description

The School of Engineering and Digital Sciences of Nazarbayev University has three faculty positions for outstanding individuals to join the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering as Assistant/Associate/Full Professor rank, depends on candidates research and teaching profile, in the areas of Aeronautical and Aerospace Engineering, Applied Mechanics, Biomechanical Engineering, Materials Engineering, and Energy Engineering.

Candidates must possess an earned PhD degree from a reputable university. Candidates must, during their prior career, have demonstrated excellence in research, learning and teaching and external engagement depending on their academic level. A sustained and successful track record of attaining research or commercial funding and publication in internationally recognised quality journals associated with high Scopus h-index are essential.

Kazakhstan has a small, successful and growing aerospace industry and a heritage as a center of the Space Engineering, Technology and Science. In order to fully capture the opportunity to participate in this development, the successful applicant in Aeronautical and Aerospace Engineering is expected to have standing at a senior level in the international aerospace and aviation community. Previous appointments at aerospace and aviation companies such as Airbus, Rolls-Royce, Bombardier, COMAC or SpaceX, government agencies such European or Japanese Space Agency and laboratories such as Jet Propulsion Laboratory will be well regarded.

In the area of Applied Mechanics, the applicant should have expertise in machine dynamics, machine design, and acoustics and vibrations. Kazakhstan is looking to further develop and grow their manufacturing capabilities.

In the area of Biomechanical Engineering, we seek a candidate who has the capacity to join our development in this strategic area. The Department is already working with local medical institutions.

In the area of Materials Engineering, the applicant should have expertise in one of the following areas: Advanced materials and manufacturing, Sustainable Manufacturing, Materials/Metallurgy and Additive Manufacturing.

In the area of Energy Engineering, the successful applicant should have expertise in renewable energy, in particular built environment, solar and wind engineering. Kazakhstan was the host of Expo 2017 Future Energy and activities in this sector are set to increase. The department has developed industrial collaboration with Kazakhstan's largest wind farm.

Additional information

The university provides research grants for successful proposals. Initial appointment is on a 3-year renewable contract and subsequent appointments can be 5-year/3-year renewable subject to annual performance reviews.
