A molecular epidemiological study to determine the prevalence of oncogenic HPV strains for cervical cancer prevention in Kazakhstan

NUSOM invites applications for the position of RESEARCH ASSISTANT (Project manager). The incumbent will be responsible for working in a HPV project that consists of two components: 1) Epidemiological study using molecular genotyping of HPV from Pap Smear samples and 2)  A survey to evaluate the awareness and understanding of the role of HPV and cervical cancer in Kazakhstan. The RA (Project Manager) will, under the guidance and supervision of the PIs will be responsible for the organization, logistics and the implementation of the project and specifically the completion of the survey and the analysis of the survey. He or she will have a service contract with NUSOM and report to the PI and co-PIs at NUSOM.

Job Description

Responsibilities

An RA will be responsible for:

§  Ensuring an overall timely and smooth implementation of the project by providing administrative support with all project activities

§  Assisting with procurement of lab equipment and lab supplies for the genotyping component of the project

§  Preparing regular reports and budgets related to the project

§  Outreach and communication with partner organizations, including collaborators and health organizations, labs, and lab suppliers

§  Assisting with the organization of collecting samples for genetic testing

§  Implementation of the survey, collection of data and statistical analysis of the survey results.

§  Assist in manuscript preparation and publication.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

§  MPH degree, or MD, or MS degree in Biology or a related discipline;

§  Fluency in English, Russian and Kazakh and an ability to do oral and written translation between the different languages

§  Prior research experience would be preferable.

§  Experience in the techniques listed above, and demonstration of independence in experimental design and implementation is highly desirable.

§  Personal characteristics: Problem solving skills and communication skills
