About the Role: Charles Sturt University Sydney is seeking a qualified and dedicated Workplace Learning Co-ordinator/Lecturer in Social Work to support the growth and academic excellence of its postgraduate programs. The role will lead the development and maintenance of strong relationships with industry, employers, community organisations and professional networks to create high-quality workplace learning and placement opportunities for students.

The successful candidate will proactively engage with organisations across social work, human services, health and community sectors to identify, establish and expand placement opportunities aligned with students’ learning and career goals. This includes developing sustainable industry partnerships, strengthening existing stakeholder relationships and creating new connections with potential placement providers.

The role will support students undertaking workplace learning at postgraduate levels, while contributing to placements, teaching and student engagement. A key requirement is demonstrated capability in networking, stakeholder engagement, partnership development and converting industry connections into meaningful placement opportunities that prepare students to become ethical, reflective and work ready professionals.

Key Responsibilities:

• Coordinate and deliver workplace learning subjects and create high-quality, student-centred workplace learning and placement opportunities.
• Develop and maintain strong professional relationships with students, providing timely consultation, guidance and feedback before, during and following placements.
• Proactively build, establish and maintain strategic partnerships with industry, employers, community organisations, government agencies and professional bodies to identify and secure diverse, high-quality student placement opportunities.
• Develop and expand industry networks to create new placement pathways aligned with workforce needs, professional standards and students’ learning and career aspirations.
• Strengthen existing workplace partnerships through regular engagement, stakeholder relationship management, evaluation and ongoing collaboration.
• Collaborate with academic and industry stakeholders to design, deliver and continuously improve workplace learning experiences and placement models.
• Support students at risk of not successfully completing workplace learning by facilitating appropriate interventions and opportunities to develop required professional competencies.
• Undertake workplace learning roles, including Field Education Liaison Officer (FELO), Field Educator and supervision and assessment of Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL).
• Provide professional development and support to staff and workplace supervisors involved in student placements, ensuring compliance with University policies and professional accreditation standards.
• Monitor sector trends, workforce needs and developments in Social Work to inform industry engagement, placement opportunities and continuous improvement in teaching and workplace learning.
• Participate in scholarly activities, with a strong focus on placement trends
• Undertake other duties appropriate to the position.

Qualifications and selection criteria

• A minimum of a Master’s degree in Social Work or a related field, with eligibility for membership of the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW) and at least five years (FTE) of post-qualifying professional social work experience. A PhD in Social Work or related field is highly desirable.
• Demonstrated professional and/or academic experience in Social Work, with substantial industry and workplace relationship development experience relevant to social work and human services.
• Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of workplace learning and professional practice, with proven ability to build, maintain and leverage strong industry, community, government and professional networks to identify, develop and secure high-quality student placement opportunities.
• Demonstrated success in establishing and sustaining strategic partnerships with employers and placement providers, including the ability to develop new industry relationships and expand placement capacity in response to student, course and workforce needs.
• Demonstrated credibility within Social Work and Human Services through a combination of professional practice, industry engagement and academic knowledge.
• Demonstrated commitment and capability in delivering high-quality, student-centred learning and teaching, including subject coordination and workplace learning support.
• Demonstrated ability to engage collaboratively with academics, professional staff, industry partners and interdisciplinary teams to achieve shared workplace learning and student outcomes.
• Experience working effectively within diverse, inclusive and culturally responsive environments.
• Demonstrated capacity to work independently and collaboratively within a large, complex academic environment, with a strong outcome-focused approach to stakeholder engagement, partnership development and securing sustainable placement opportunities focus.
