Job Description

The Groundskeeper/Lead Utility provides daily support maintaining exterior grounds, building furnishings and housekeeping.

  • Maintain facility exterior appearance on a daily basis
  • Clean fountains on a daily basis
  • Operate and maintain exterior landscape equipment
  • Report major maintenance issues to the building engineer
  • Maintain custodial equipment and service areas
  • Assist supervisor with office moves and changes
  • Assist supervisor with light landscaping duties
  • Update supervisor of cleaning contractor issues
  • Update supervisor on supply inventory
  • Assist maintenance team as additional manpower for special projects 
  • Perform internal and external cleaning detail work as needed
  • Assist with internal custodial issues as needed
  • Supervise internal and external part-time custodial staff as needed

The duties listed above are not all inclusive. The person in this position is expected to perform other work-related duties as assigned even though they may not be considered primary duties.

Qualifications

Education

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Experience

  • At least two years of related experience

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of landscape maintenance equipment, custodial equipment and supplies
  • Helpful attitude in developing creative response and solutions to needs and issues
  • Ability to work independently and use independent judgment while keeping supervisor informed of work activity and issues
  • Ability to coordinate multiple projects and balance a sense of urgency with lower priorities while maintaining calm
  • A good sense of humor and global perspective is an added plus
  • Work flexible hours depending on operational needs of the staff or required maintenance of system

Equipment to Be Used

  • Power tools associated with custodial trades
  • Personal computer, telephone, and other office machinery, including copy and fax machine
  • Exterior cleaning equipment, powered sweeper, leaf blower, pressure washer, air compressor, personnel lift and carpet extractor

Physical Demands

The Groundskeeper/Utility will be required to lift, carry, walk, sit, push, pull and move continuously during work hours, and should be able to lift and/or carry up to 50 pounds.
