The Nashville Symphony inspires, entertains, educates and serves through musical performance, innovation, collaboration and inclusion. Led by music director Giancarlo Guerrero, the orchestra performs more than 150 concerts annually, with a diverse repertoire that includes classical, pops, jazz, movies, and more. It is one of the most active recording orchestras in the U.S., with a total of 14 GRAMMY® Awards and 27 nominations.

The Facility Maintenance Technician assists the Chief Engineer with maintenance and care of Schermerhorn Symphony Center, including public areas, performance spaces, administrative offices, backstage and support spaces.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

1. Repair fixtures in public spaces, performances spaces, offices, backstage hallways, storage areas and dressing rooms.
2. Patch, paint, and restore surfaces that are worn or damaged.
3. Perform specific maintenance and repair tasks as directed for mechanical HVAC, plumbing, and electrical systems.
4. Maintain and repair doors and locks.
5. Maintain seating in the concert hall to ensure 100% seating capacity.
6. Install and/or remove banners and marketing materials, as directed.
7. Perform daily and routine maintenance of building systems.
8. Assist Venue Management and Operations teams with fulfilling production requirements.
9. Must be available for scheduled performances on nights and weekends.

Supervisory Responsibilities

May supervise part-time employees in the maintenance department. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities may include assigning and directing the work of employees.

Education
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); 2 to 3 years related experience and/or training; and/or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Experience
2 to 3 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Knowledge of electrical systems, drywall, carpentry, metalwork, painting, seating and flooring.
• Supervisory, interpersonal, and customer service skills, and the ability to perform as part of a team.
• Ability to operate an automobile, machinery and mechanical equipment safely.
• Helpful attitude and the ability to develop creative responses and solutions to needs and issues.
• Ability to work independently and use independent judgment while keeping supervisor informed of work activity and issues.
• Ability to coordinate multiple projects and balance a sense of urgency with lower priorities.
• Ability to maintain a sense of calm and sense of humor.
• Ability to work flexible hours depending on operational needs of the staff or required maintenance of systems.
• Should have own vehicle and valid driver’s license.

Equipment to be Used

• Power tools associated with building trades.
• Personal computer and other peripheral devices, telephone and/or wireless device.

Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.  The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
