Job Description

I. Summary

            Reports to:  Chief Development Officer (CDO)

            Status:  Full-Time, Exempt

The Director of Donor Engagement manages the development, creation, and implementation of strategic initiatives and donor relationships to increase retention, maximize revenue, and grow the Nashville Symphony’s Annual Fund.

 II. Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

Team Management (50%)

·       Manage Individual and Corporate Giving Engagement Managers to identify and cultivate prospects, conceive and write proposals, ensure appropriate donor stewardship, and report achievements to donors and funders.

·       In partnership with the CDO, develop annual workplans and manage team performance.

·       Maintain a list of funder requirements (in conjunction with team members who oversee the relationships) and coordinate with relevant staff to ensure compliance and documentation.

·       Develop and implement stakeholder engagement programs (overseen by team members) that encourage long-term relationship building between the Nashville Symphony and donors, particularly individuals and corporations.

Pipeline Development (30%)

·       Personally manage a portfolio of 25-50 prospects/patrons.

·        Working closely with the CDO and other principal gift managers, coordinate the development of overall goals, strategies, and tactics to effectively engage the Nashville Symphony’s top donors.

·       Insure that a highly qualified pipeline of new prospects is consistently prioritized for gift officer assignment.

·       Participate in regular prospect and portfolio review meetings with the team.

·       On a regular basis, host meetings with the team to discuss priority prospects for elevation to new portfolios

·       Analyze portfolio performance across giving levels and adjust portfolios as needed

Other Functions and Duties (20%)

·        Create and present comprehensive reports to the CDO highlighting donor strategy and upcoming pipeline meetings. Assist in monitoring overall goals and objectives, tracking, cultivation, and solicitations for the Symphony’s top donors.

·        Maintain a list of funder requirements (in conjunction with team members who oversee the relationships) and coordinate with relevant staff to ensure compliance and documentation

·        Review fundraising policies on an annual basis and recommend changes as needed

·        Represent the Nashville Symphony at meetings with prospective donors, partners, and generally in Middle Tennessee communities

·       Maintain knowledge of current tax treatment and other developments relevant to individual and corporate giving

The duties listed above are not all inclusive.  The person in this position is expected to perform other work-related duties as assigned even though they may not be considered primary duties.

III.       Supervisory Responsibilities

·   Oversee the Gift/Engagement Managers/Officers of the Nashville Symphony (4.5 FTE’s)

Qualifications

Work Requirements and Qualifications

·       Bachelor’s degree

·       7+ years of experience in fundraising/development/philanthropy, at least 3 of which were in a supervisory position with demonstrated experience managing teams

·       Proven skills in understanding, analyzing, and synthesizing high volumes of information

·       Demonstrated project management skills with experience managing a team and initiating, planning, executing, controlling, and completing multiple complex projects within tight deadlines

·       Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal skills

·       Ability to collaborate across all areas of the organization
