Schermerhorn Symphony Center, the orchestra’s home since 2006, is widely considered one of the world’s finest acoustical venues. Named in honor of former music director Kenneth Schermerhorn and located in the heart of Nashville’s booming downtown.

In addition to its classical and education programming, the Nashville Symphony offers a wide variety of performances, including pop, rock, jazz, country and family concerts. Schermerhorn Symphony Center has become an in-demand venue for artists including Sheryl Crow, Tony Bennett, Diana Ross, Willie Nelson, Alabama, and Boyz II Men, all of whom have performed with the Nashville Symphony. The orchestra also performs regularly at Nashville’s Ascend Amphitheater.

Job Description

The Chorus Coordinator & Librarian support the activities of the Nashville Symphony Chorus, an all-volunteer ensemble of more than 150 singers that performs several times annually at the Schermerhorn Symphony Center. The Chorus Coordinator works closely with the Chorus Director, Section Leaders and Chorus President to ensure that rehearsals and performances run smoothly.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

1.      Serve as Nashville Symphony Chorus Coordinator and Chorus Librarian.

2.      Attend and serve as the primary contact for all chorus rehearsals and concerts.

3.      Oversee the annual audition process, and attend all auditions.

4.      Source and prepare musical materials in coordination with the Nashville Symphony              Librarians, and according to the direction of Music Director and Chorus Director.

5.      Distribute, collect, and inventory chorus music. When applicable, prepare supertitles.

6.      Manage parking procedures for all rehearsals and concert nights at Schermerhorn             Symphony Center.

7.      Reserve weekly rehearsal spaces, both on- and off-site, and assist in the creation of            seating charts.

8.      Assist with chorus warmup room preparations.

9.      Assist the Manager of Artistic Administration in maintaining the Chorus budget.

10.   Process invoices for accompanists and other Chorus-related items.

11.   Serve as non-voting member of the Symphony Chorus Committee and attend all                committee meetings.

12.   Coordinate special events (Chorus Appreciation Party, Retreats, etc.) and create                Banquet Event Orders (BEOs) for set-up needs.

13.   Process changes to the Chorus roster on a timely basis.

14.   Manage Chorus records, rosters, calendar, and communications using the                          ChorusConnection website and email.

15.   Complete other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications

Education

            1.    High school diploma or equivalent with experience in arts administration, music, or music business.

            2.   Experience

Minimum of 2 years’ related experience; preference will be given to individuals with choral experience and knowledge.

            3.   Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Stellar organizational skills with attention to detail and ability to schedule priorities to maximize efficiency.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills.
  • Ability to work with a broad spectrum of personalities and to exhibit patience and understanding.
  • Willingness to learn and adapt to a variety of circumstances.
  • Ability to work as a team member with a positive attitude.
  • Interest and working knowledge of classical music repertoire.
  • Ability to work independently and use independent judgment while keeping supervisor informed of work activity and issues.        
  • Ability to maintain the strictest of confidence as needed.
