One of Tennessee’s largest and longest-running nonprofit performing arts organizations, the Nashville Symphony has been an integral part of the Music City sound since 1946. Led by music director Giancarlo Guerrero, the 83-member ensemble performs 170 concerts annually, with a focus on contemporary American orchestral music. It is one of the most active recording orchestras in the U.S. and has earned a total of 13 GRAMMY® Awards and 24 nominations.


Job Description

1.      Coordinate planning and implementation of an ongoing stewardship plan and related activities for Nashville Symphony donors

2.      Ensure that details of the stewardship program are well-documented, communicated to all involved parties, and incorporated into moves management tracking.

3.      Work with other members of the Development team to develop and fulfill personalized stewardship strategies that strengthen long-term relationships with donors.

4.      Oversee the timeliness of the donor acknowledgment process, prepare acknowledgement letters for major gift donors, produce donor packets and coordinate all benefits fulfillment; respond promptly and follow up to any donor or patron inquiries as needed.

5.      Proof the accuracy of monthly printed donor listings and keep lists up to date on the website.

6.      Prepare patron lists for Founders Hall and bars on concert nights; communicate to patrons on nights Founders Hall will be closed. Help coordinate department staffing at cultivation events.

7.      Prepare patron lists for VIP parking and communicate with valet company for concert nights.

8.      In partnership with the Director of Events and Stewardship, and other members of the Development team, manage the planning, scheduling, invitations, and some logistics for all donor engagement and cultivation events as needed, such as open dress rehearsals for patrons, special Founders Hall receptions, meet and greets, and volunteer/chorus/staff donor thank you events.

9.      Manage volunteer/chorus donor giving campaign.

10.  Coordinate, schedule and draft content for regular donor communications, including donor impact reports and donor e-newsletter.

11.  Assist in creating a set of statistics or reports for analysis of stewardship efforts.

12.  Identify best practices at other organizations for donor stewardship.

13.  Assist the Director of Events and Stewardship on projects as needed

      1.   Education

Bachelor’s degree or more than two years relevant experience in fundraising or working for an arts non-profit


            2.   Experience

One year experience in fundraising or an equivalent client-focused environment preferred (but not required)

            3.   Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Excellent written, verbal communication and editing skills


Highly organized with the ability to prioritize multiple requests and handle multiple tasks on deadlines


Knowledge of principles and techniques relevant to fundraising and major gift acquisition preferred


Understanding of individual donor needs and perceptions


Knowledge of donor databases and prospect tracking systems

  Outstanding capacities for personal presentation, self-motivation and initiative, accuracy, follow-through, timeliness, consistency


  Ability to conceptualize and facilitate cultivation strategies


   Ability to work independently and use independent judgment while keeping supervisor informed of work activity and issues


  Ability to effectively interact with staff in several different departments as well as volunteers


  Excellent customer service                                             


   Ability to work as part of a team, with a positive, helpful attitude in developing creative response and solutions to needs and issues


   Ability to maintain the strictest confidence and utmost honesty   


Ability to work flexible hours, including several evenings a month, to accommodate meetings as well as cultivation events and special events
