One of Tennessee’s largest and longest-running nonprofit performing arts organizations, the Nashville Symphony has been an integral part of the Music City sound since 1946. Led by music director Giancarlo Guerrero, the 83-member ensemble performs 170 concerts annually, with a focus on contemporary American orchestral music. It is one of the most active recording orchestras in the U.S. and has earned a total of 13 GRAMMY® Awards and 24 nominations.

Education and community engagement have been at the core of the Nashville Symphony’s mission since its founding. Each year the organization reaches 60,000 children and adults with more than 20 free or low-cost programs, including Young People’s Concerts for K-12 students, sectional lessons with band and orchestra students and free Community Concerts.

Schermerhorn Symphony Center, the orchestra’s home since 2006, is widely considered one of the world’s finest acoustical venues. Named in honor of former music director Kenneth Schermerhorn and located in the heart of Nashville’s booming downtown.

In addition to its classical and education programming, the Nashville Symphony offers a wide variety of performances, including pop, rock, jazz, country and family concerts. Schermerhorn Symphony Center has become an in-demand venue for artists including Sheryl Crow, Tony Bennett, Diana Ross, Willie Nelson, Alabama, and Boyz II Men, all of whom have performed with the Nashville Symphony. The orchestra also performs regularly at Nashville’s Ascend Amphitheater.

Job Description

Reports to:  VP of Marketing

Position Overview: The Director of Ticket Services oversees all aspects of managing the sales and services of tickets including the management of the box office,  ticketing customer service, subscriptions and single ticket sales sold via phone, box office and online. Along with managing box office staff, this position plays a key role in setting ticket prices and sales goals as well as collaborating with the marketing team to develop the strategies to meet and exceed sales goals.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Work with the VP of Marketing to set prices and the ticket scale for all concerts, to ensure that tickets are priced to meet marketplace demand and the inventory is dynamically managed to goals and maximum ticket sales potential. 
    • Develop and maintain all sales reports pertaining to the sale of subscription and single tickets. 
    • Work with VP of Marketing in projecting revenue goals for subscription and single tickets.
    • Collaborate with the marketing team to develop strategies to reach and exceed sales goals.
    • Prepare and present the final artist settlement documents and payment for all presentation events.
  • Manage all ticket information in Tessitura customer-relations software and Ticketmaster, including the building of subscription ticket packages, single tickets and rental events as well as training documentation and the implementation of systems to support the ticketing procedures.
  • Ensure that all concerts are accurately built and maintained properly in Tessitura, Ticketmaster and all other consignment channels.
  • Work with the web development team to make sure that the eCommerce platform is working properly across all fronts.
  • Set policies and procedures for Box Office staff to support high levels of ticketing customer service; establish and enforce policies regarding ticket sales, exchanges and complimentary tickets and oversee the procedure for quality control of all ticket order entries for those who process tickets.
    • Oversee the process for printing of subscription tickets and the management and printing of data for subscription ticket renewal invoices.
    • Act as the liaison between box office and all other departments t ensure that ticketing needs are met for sponsors, VIPs, artists and staff.
    • Participate in night-of-show box office supervisor rotation and act as a backup to box office as needed.

Qualifications

  • At least three to five years proven experience in box office management
  • Bachelor’s Degree or a combination of equivalent education and experience
  • Highly effective interpersonal skills, problem-solving abilities and management skills required
  • Must be a strong leader with creative and innovative approaches to job-related functions
  • Ability to create, analyze and interpret financial reports
  • Committment to superb customer service
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook
  • High level knowledge of Tessitura preferred
  • Knowledge of classical music helpful
