Valentine, the Nashville Symphony has established an international profile with its innovative programming and steadily expanding discography. Founded in 1946, the 83-member orchestra is today the largest performing arts nonprofit in the state of Tennessee. With 140 performances annually, the Symphony’s concert schedule encompasses a diverse mix of classical, pops, jazz and family programs, along with extensive community outreach efforts.

Job Description

The Education and Community Engagement Intern will provide support for all of the day-to-day activities of the Education and Community Engagement department of the Nashville Symphony, which is responsible for the Symphony’s music education initiatives, children’s concerts, community partnerships, and adult education programs. The intern will assist in the planning and activities for our After School Residency, providing support at Accelerando information sessions and auditions, and delivering Instrument Petting Zoo programs to local schools and community programs. Additionally, the Education and Community Engagement Intern will gain hands-on experience in re-vamping and/or building new curriculum for our educational programs. Prior experience designing lesson plans or working with school children is a plus, but not required. 

Qualifications

All interns must be students at accredited colleges and universities.

  • The internship must be a part of the student’s curriculum.
  • The internship must provide earned hours that are directly applied to the student’s degree.
  • Interns must work a minimum of 135 hours per semester.
  • Interns must be available to work some evenings and select weekends during the season.
  • Interns must be high-energy, detail-oriented, team players.
  • Internships do not provide compensation.
  • Internships do not guarantee full-time positions with the Symphony upon completion.
