Job Description

Aurinia is looking for a talented scientist to join our Translational Medicine team. This position will report to the head of Translational Medicine and will be responsible for supporting the organization’s drug discoveries in both early stage and late stage development as well as approved therapies and requires an enthusiastic and creative scientist.
Primary Responsibilities
• Lead development, implementation, review and oversight of an Investigator Sponsored Research (ISR) program for use of Aurinia products in all stages of development including both approved and development stage products
• Work cross-functionally to support new drug candidates or formulations aligned with Aurinia Corporate objectives and work closely with functional partners including Experimental Medicine, CMC, Regulatory Affairs, Clinical Development, Quality Assurance and others.
• Work with the Experimental Medicine and clinical development teams to help in the design of proof of concept studies and full development for various therapeutic area programs.
• Work with the Experimental Medicine team for the development of blood-based assays with external laboratories and technology transfer to CROs, executing a CDx plan where appropriate
• Represent Translational Medicine on project teams or sub-teams, as required.
• Collaborates with appropriate members of Aurinia to prioritize research initiatives and programs to supplement corporate strategy and initiatives.
• Identifies research partners and capabilities that align with corporate objectives and goals.
• Design and manage projects in support of all aspects of translational research for both clinical and preclinical drug candidates, including design of scientific experiments to address basic research questions.
• Write, review and revise procedures/protocols/SOPs in accordance with research goals and objectives.
• Develops and executes on innovative research initiatives which includes managing research collaborations with both academic and industry partners to meet deadlines and priorities across multiple projects.
• Analysis, interpretation and presentation of data to internal and external audiences in the form of written reports or summary slides.
• Develops key relationships with internal and external customers to strengthen outreach and increase research capabilities from universities and specific research centers.
• Deliver key tissue biomarkers which enable demonstration of proof of mechanism and enhance disease understanding
• Monitors activities to ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations and federal requirements, and Aurinia policies and procedures.
• Assists in search and evaluation of potential new assets that might be brought into the company
• Represent Aurinia at scientific conferences

Qualifications

• Ph.D., or equivalent degree, in Immunology, Pharmacology, Molecular biology, or related field
• Post doc with 2+ years progressive experience in managing research and development programs. Drug discovery/development experience preferred
• Established record of research and/or clinical activities supported by internal and external funding and evidence of publications in peer reviewed journals preferred
• Proactive and flexible with experience of managing external teams, and able to thrive in a fast-paced team environment
• Ability to work well remotely and independently, as well as a member of multiple, integrated and cross-functional teams
• Comfortable working on and prioritizing multiple projects
• A demonstrated success in developing and managing strategic relationships to accomplish business objectives is required
• Experience managing projects with academic and/or industrial external partners
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills (essential)
• Sound interpersonal skills
