Aurinia is a clinical stage biopharmaceutical company focused on developing and commercializing therapies in disease areas of high unmet medical need. We are currently developing voclosporin, an investigational drug, for the treatment of lupus nephritis (LN) and focal segmental glomerularsclerosis (FSGS). Additionally, we are advancing voclosporin ophthalmic solution (VOS), a topical formulation, for the treatment of dry eye syndrome (DES).

Job Description

Reporting to the Chief Commercial Officer, the Head of Global Value, Access, Strategy is primarily responsible for partnering with Aurinia’s corporate, commercial, and development teams to shape the commercialization path for portfolio assets by focusing on demonstrating and communicating their value proposition. This includes conducting disease landscape assessments, developing the overall global value and access strategy and conducting launch preparation activities that can be leverage by in-line and country teams to support commercial success of Aurinia’s current and future portfolio.  More specifically, s/he will collaborate with Clinical Development, Medical Affairs, and Regulatory teams to ensure that trial design and evidence generation plans incorporate value and access considerations. S/he will lead all of Aurinia’s global pricing and market access activities to maximize patient access to voclosporin in LN, FSGS, and DES/DED/KCS.  S/he will gather insights and build strategies that can be leveraged by country teams to ensure the reimbursement landscape is shaped, different payment models and access approaches are considered/created and the execution of pricing and access strategies is within global guidelines.  The GVAS lead will also provide commercial insight to support pipeline development, acceleration and prioritization, and develop early commercial assessment models based upon relevant disease and target profiles, competitive landscapes, patient pathways and access opportunities. S/he will build out the capabilities required for alliance management should Aurinia choose to commercialize in certain markets or for specific indications with external partners.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Work in close collaboration with cross-functional partners to create and maintain value and access for patients to Aurinia’s future therapies and drive commercial success
  • Provide robust commercial and market access input into the clinical development strategy of pipeline assets, including:
    • Input to the design of clinical trial endpoints
    • Defining, with the HEOR and Medical Affairs teams, the data generation plan and Real-World Evidence (RWE) needed to support the value story and brand positioning pre- and post-launch
    • Provide commercial insight to support pipeline development, acceleration and prioritization
  • Support the development of robust disease strategies including patient pathways, evolving clinical landscapes, disease and target product profiles for all assets and therapeutic areas of interest 
  • Develop early commercial assessment models and brand strategies based upon relevant disease and target profiles, competitive landscapes, patient pathways and access opportunities
  • Develop a clear value proposition that translates clinical benefits into payer value and access for patients and building the Global Value Dossier and related communications
  • Work in partnership with the corporate development team to provide relevant commercial insights to inform strategic business development decisions
  • Oversee development of global pricing and market access strategies for Aurinia’s therapies and drive consistent execution across markets
    • Analyze pricing and payer landscape and conduct target pricing (e.g., payers’ perceptions of value drivers, levers, price-value trade-offs, forecasting models) and translate these into pricing recommendations
    • Establish process and guidelines for developing global strategy, including value propositions, pricing and forecast modelling, pricing guidelines and other materials and tactics needed to demonstrate value across markets
    • Implement and manage process for maintaining pricing governance (e.g., pricing committee).
  • Collaborate with senior leadership to shape the policy and reimbursement environment
    • Maintain policy and reimbursement expertise across markets to identify new and emerging access barriers
    • Partner with cross-function leaders across Commercial, R&D, Government Affairs/Policy, Advocacy, Medical Affairs and Legal to develop company’s position on policy/reimbursement issues and develop strategies for engaging external stakeholders
  • Collaborate with Finance, Legal and other functions to establish consistent business rules and policies to ensure appropriate and compliant reporting (e.g., US government price reporting)
  • In the future, as Aurinia scales, lead a global cross functional team with representation from core launch countries to ensure optimal commercialization of assets from pre-launch preparation through LOE.  At the go pivotal stage this role is accountable for facilitating creation of a cross-functional global commercial team.

Qualifications

● Demonstrated ability to translate global commercial landscape dynamics into a viable commercial platform for pipeline assets
● Extensive knowledge of the policy and reimbursement environment and existing barriers to access in various markets in Aurinia's disease areas of interest
● Extensive understanding of the value drivers and evidence generation needs in various healthcare systems around the world, with demonstrated ability to coordinate with cross-functional partners (e.g., Clinical, Regulatory, Medical) to assess and forecast the global commercial landscape
● Ability to develop commercial assessment models based upon relevant disease and target profiles, competitive landscapes, patient pathways and access opportunities
● Experience working at a global team and collaborating with and coaching country/regional teams or alliance partners to drive patient access, commercial success and achieve consistent execution across markets
● Demonstrated ability to developing pricing frameworks and governance that can be leveraged by country/regional teams 
● Expert negotiation skills and a proven ability to design new payment models/contract types that can address payer needs and overcome market barriers
● Comfort with uncertainty and demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgment under tight timelines and independently determine appropriate action where precedent may not exist
● 15+ years of experience in pharmaceutical/biotech industry, including 10+ years in progressive strategy and/or market access roles
● Bachelor's degree in a relevant field; Master’s Degree, MBA or PhD highly desirable
