Job Description

The Safety Manager (SM) provides safety oversight of all NVE facility operation and maintenance (O&M) activities at Jefferson Laboratories, Arkansas, a 1 million square foot, 30+ building complex supporting the Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA), National Center for Toxicological Research (NCTR). 

The ideal candidate possesses three (3) years preventing workplace accidents and promoting health and safety awareness and education to fellow employees. The SM makes sure that employees follow health and safety laws and creates policies for a safer work environment. The SM identifies potential workplace hazards and improves existing workplace operating conditions.

Specific tasks to be performed include:

  • Ability to assess potential hazards and act safely and quickly in the event of an incident.
  • Create and implement workplace health and safety plans and procedures.
  • Evaluate health and safety practice and procedures for risk assessment and legal guidelines.
  • Conduct accident prevention training and health and safety training.
  • Inspect equipment for unsafe workplace conditions.
  • Monitor employee conformity to safety laws and policies.
  • Investigate accidents and incidents to find cause and take prevention measures for further incidents.

Handle worker's compensation claims in the event of a workplace accident.

Suggest solutions, improvements, and prevention steps for safety issues.

  • Gather data and produce reports documenting the status of quality workmanship and performance.
  • Maintain direct communication with NVE’s overall on-site Program Manager.
  • Inspect, test, and evaluate services performed for safe equipment operation.
  • Ensure that equipment adhere to safe operating standards.
  • Correct deficient work practices that are not performed in accordance with proper safety protocol.  Identify root causes of any safety issues and develop remedial action plans to correct deficiencies.

Qualifications

  • HS Diploma
  • Three (3) years safety and health oversight of facility O&M contracts or activities
  • Certification and Training.  Must be knowledgeable of federal and Arkansas workplace health and safety laws.
