Job Description

Provides patients with urological care, including diagnosis, pre-operative care, all major and minor operative procedures in the field of urology and post-operative treatment. Provides preventive care of patients according to approved procedure as part of an integrated program of curative and preventive services. Incumbent is a urologic surgeon who provides consultation & attending care including care for complicated cases which are within his/ her competence. 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provides comprehensive and diligent urological care to patients (in OPD & IP), including pre- and post-operative care and such urological procedures as are within incumbent's competence.

 

  • Assumes after-hours responsibility for the care of surgical cases and makes daily rounds for those hospitalized.

 

  • Refers to specialists or consults with them on those cases which are beyond his skill or experience.

 

  • Adheres to the Bylaws and Rules and Regulations of the Medical Department and assures that work performed is in keeping with the established standards of the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Hospitals.

 

  • Consults with the anesthetist on the choice of anesthesia to be used.

 

  • Maintains complete and accurate records of all assigned cases.

 

  • Participates in and contributes to in-service activities such as lectures, conferences and rounds.

 

  • Supports Continuous Quality Improvement.

 

  • Maintains confidentiality regarding patient information and regarding administrative matters of a confidential nature.

 

  • Evidences dependability in carrying out the commitments and obligations of the position.

 

  • Demonstrates the ability to listen to others in promoting effective communication.

 

  • Develops thorough understanding of policies and procedures of the hospital and demonstrates respect for them.

 

  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Chief Urologist.

 

Qualifications

  • Graduation from an approved medical school plus one year of internship and three years of residency; certification by the American Board of Urology or Member of the Royal College of Physicians (or its equivalent).
  • At least five (5) years of practice as a urologist.
  • Excellent command of oral and written English. Knowledge of Arabic language is desirable but not essential.
  • Must be highly skilled in the particular field of practice, with mature clinical judgment and ability to provide professional leadership. He / she must have a thorough knowledge of Medical Department policies and procedures with particular reference to the obligation to maintain the confidentiality of his work; personality which inspires confidence and trust in his patients; and adhere to Bylaws, Rules and Regulations of the Medical Organization.
