Job Description

As our Senior Accountant you will be responsible for managing the full suite of accounting, financial reporting, audit, tax, and compliance obligations of our Japanese operations.

Reporting directly into our Head of Finance in Australia and working closely with local stakeholders and advisors, as the successful candidate you will ensure accurate and timely financial management in accordance with Japanese GAAP (JGAAP) and corporate requirements.

This includes hands on involvement in financial closing, statutory reporting, tax compliance (including Consumption Tax), and coordination with external auditors and tax agents.

 

Within this position, your scope will cover:

  • Maintaining accurate and timely financial records in compliance with JGAAP and company policies
  • Overseeing all aspects of the local accounting function, including general ledger, and month-end close processes
  • Coordinating banking and treasury requirements
  • Advising and partnering with Australian stakeholders on local Japanese custom
  • Preparing periodic financial reports for local and Group reporting requirements
  • Ensuring compliance with all local tax laws, including filing and reconciliation of Japan Consumption Tax and corporate tax
  • Supporting the preparation and audit of annual statutory financial statements in Japan
  • Collaborating with the Australian and Malaysian finance team for group level consolidation, budgeting, forecasting, and reporting
  • Providing financial input and support for corporate structures such as GK-TK and TMK entities

 

Qualifications

  • CPA, Chartered Accountant or equivalent Japanese accounting qualification
  • Strong knowledge of Japanese accounting standards (JGAAP) and tax compliance
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in both Japanese and English
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel
  • Minimum 5–7 years’ experience in a broad accounting role in Japan, ideally within a multinational or fast-growing organisation
  • Familiarity with IFRS or Australian accounting standards is an advantage as well as the typical adjustments required to translate from JGAAP to IFRS
