As a Security Network Engineer, you will be part of a Security Operations Centre (SOC) that monitors the organization's entire IT infrastructure, detecting, analyzing, and responding to cyber threats in real time.

The SOC team are responsible for monitoring: networks, servers, and end point devices, looking for suspicious activity and threats.

The role of the Security Network Engineer is to provide expert knowledge and resource to handle the network aspects of the environment. You will be responsible for responding and handling priority alerts within SLAs and triaging work that comes into the team.

The Security Network Engineer will be part of the larger SOC team, expected to assist in all areas, but with the focus and primary responsibility on the network infrastructure.

As a member of the SOC, you would also be part of the larger Infosec team that manages the cyber operations across the business. You would work closely with these other teams for any overlapping responsibilities and areas of knowledge that could assist Infosec in delivering its objectives.

Communication and collaboration are paramount to this role, the Security Network Engineer will work with other teams outside Infosec that are part of the wider organisation who own and manage the devices throughout the business.

The successful candidate will report to the SOC Manager and join a diverse InfoSec team comprising of Security Analysts, Security Engineers, Security Managers and work closely with our Security Architects and Data Protection Officer. 

The role is primarily home based with an expectation that travel to NEC offices will be required on an ad-hoc basis. 

Responsibilities (with the primary focus being on network equipment) will include: 

• Monitoring: keeping watch over networks, servers, and devices, monitoring the dashboard alerts and P1 incidents to handle any suspicious activity. 

• Threat Detection: Uses tools and resources at our disposal to flag anomalies, malware, or unauthorized access attempts.

• Incident Investigation: Analyze alerts to separate false alarms from real cyberattacks and assesses the scope of the threat.

• Playbooks: Develop automated playbooks and methods of handling threats outside business hours. 

• Proactive Defense: Conducts threat hunting and vulnerability assessments working with other Infosec teams to patch security gaps. Identify proportionate layers of defense and any weaknesses in the network environment. 

• Documentation: Contribute to process documentation and policy review.

• Baseline Standard and Disclosure Scotland (BPSS).
• On employment the candidate must be able to achieve and maintain NPPV L3+SC clearance.

Demonstrable experience in an network role, with a strong understanding of security concepts/fundamentals.

Essential:

• Proven experience working in a network engineer role as part of a larger team.
• Experience working to strict SLAs and prioritised work.
• Good knowledge of cybersecurity, threats, tactics, techniques and procedures.
• Experience in producing and creating reports to senior leads.
• A strong focus on business outcomes 

Desirable:

• Experience in MITRE framework.
• Working knowledge of Trend TVO, Cloudflare.
• Experience with Security Incident and Event Monitoring (SIEM)
• An understanding of the secure environments we operate in.

• Ability to communicate security and technical solutions to non-technical or security resources internally and external to NEC
• Comfortable with collaboration, open communication and reaching across a range of functions and teams.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Candidates must be security cleared (or able to gain clearance) to Non-Police Personnel Vetting Level 3 (NPPV)+SC.

• Candidates must be able to demonstrate a pre-existing right to work and travel within the UK. Documentary evidence will be required.
