Job Description

NCBA CLUSA’s USAID-funded Farmer-to-Farmer program sends American farmers and agribusiness professionals on 2-4 week agricultural development assignments, promoting sustainable growth and agricultural development worldwide.  Volunteer technical assistance from U.S. farmers, agribusinesses, cooperatives and universities helps smallholder farmers in developing countries improve productivity, access new markets and conserve environmental and natural resources.  During COVID-19 we have shifted to a hybrid volunteer model that affords US volunteers and in-country volunteers the opportunity to continue to provide technical assistance.   Compensation in the form of lodging, transportation, per diem, is provided by NCBA CLUSA.  No salary/consultant fees are paid. NCBA CLUSA is currently seeking volunteers (either 1- US volunteer willing to travel or 2 volunteers for a hybrid assignment- 1 remote US volunteer and 1- volunteer based in ) qualified Farmer-to-Farmer volunteer candidates for the position of Woman Leadership Skills Trainer to support   Frutos de Selva   based in Moyobamba, Peru.

Since the creation of the coop, Frutos de Selva’s mission has been to promote the development of its members, provide training services, technical assistance, credit, acquisition of inputs, certification, and the commercialization of quality specialty coffee, with environmental and social responsibility.   

The cooperative promotes gender equity in the organization and would like to empower its female members and their daughters with leadership skills that will allow them to assume a more active role in the cooperative. The assignment will train the coop's female associates in leadership skills: such as effective communication, decision making, strategic vision, and teamwork. The training session will be an opportunity for women to enhance leadership capacities and gain confidence.

Duration: 2 weeks January 2022-April 2022 

ESSENTIAL AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:

  • The volunteer will work with the participants to identify their strengths and develop goals as female leaders. 
  • The volunteer will provide core concepts of leadership, decision making, and how to apply these to their role in the cooperative.  
  • The volunteer will teach the participants how to build a strategic vision as leaders and communicate effectively. 

Qualifications

  • Degree in psychology, sociology, or anthropology. 
  • Specialization and experience in the gender equity field.
  • Experience in developing of women leadership in rural areas.
  • Experience in facilitating experience-based training sessions, and strong communication skills.
  • Knowledge in coffee value chain and agricultural cooperatives. 
  • Available for virtual communications with Host Organization, Staff and Co-volunteer
  • US candidate must be legally able to work in the U.S. without sponsorship
  • Advanced English language skills; reading, writing, speaking.
