In the last 60 years, NCBA CLUSA has worked in over 85 countries in the areas of food security, agricultural development, strengthening of communities and farmer organizations, community-based health, natural resources management, and empowerment of smallholder farmers, women, and youth. NCBA CLUSA’s USAID-funded Farmer-to-Farmer program sends American farmers and agribusiness professionals on 2-4 week agricultural development assignments, promoting sustainable growth and agricultural development worldwide. Volunteer technical assistance from U.S. farmers, agribusinesses, cooperatives and universities helps smallholder farmers in developing countries improve productivity, access new markets and conserve environmental and natural resources. During COVID-19 we have shifted to a hybrid volunteer model that affords US volunteers and in-country volunteers the opportunity to continue to provide technical assistance. NCBA CLUSA is currently seeking 2 (1- remote US volunteer and 1- volunteer based in Honduras) qualified Farmer-to-Farmer volunteer candidates for the position of International Marketing Specialist to support Pacayal Coffee based in Chinacla, Honduras.
Pacayal Coffee was established in 2014 in response to unemployment in the municipality of Marcala, which increased due to the coffee leaf rust disease destroying many farms. They sell members’ coffee, provide technical assistance and sell organic fertilizer. Pacayal has 3 brands of specialty and roasted coffee for local markets: “Pacayal Coffee,” ´´Brothers Coffee´´ and ´´Palo Coffee.” Each is sold in a 2lb bag at the following price point: The Pacayal coffee $5, The Brothers Coffee $14.83, and The Palo coffee for $3. It currently uses its webpage and social media (Instagram and Facebook) to offer and sell its products. They would like to learn how to develop attractive digital marketing content to increase their sales.
Duration: 2 weeks September- November
ESSENTIAL AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:
- Assess the current methods being used to sell the coffee and provide constructive feedback
- Provide training on marketing and branding tips.
- Work with the training participants to design a marketing plan to increase sales.
- Degree in marketing
- Work experience on international coffee marketing
- Experience creating marketing materials used on in social media development.
- Experience in facilitating training sessions and strong communication skills.
- Available for virtual communications with Host Organization, Staff and Co-volunteer
- US candidate must be legally able to work in the U.S. without sponsorship
- Advanced English language skills; reading, writing, speaking.
