Job Description

NCBA CLUSA is currently seeking 2 (1- remote US volunteer and 1- volunteer based in Peru) qualified Farmer-to-Farmer volunteer candidates for the position of Volunteer Accountant to support Cooperativa Agraria Cafetalera Divisoria based in Leoncia Prado.

The Cooperativa Agraria Cafetalera Divisoria was founded in 2001 to help coffee producers in the regions of Huánuco, Ucayali and San Martín. In addition to coffee and cocoa beans, they also produce and sell organic fertilizer and certified wood.

Divisoria management team reported that they allocate most of their time reviewing the accuracy of their accounting reports. They expressed that they especially need to pay attention to cacao and coffee bean collection reports to prevent errors. When the coop receives cacao and coffee beans from farmers it is considered an expense but when they sell, it becomes income. However, cacao and coffee bean collection requires a different system than income and expenses because Peruvian regulations do not classify cacao beans collected as an expense but rather an internal (coop) service. Consequently, bean collection influences accounting reports and accountants (management) need to master bean collection to guarantee proper coop management.  Divisoria would like to have more control and a simplified accounting process. (special focus on cacao and coffee bean collection).  They would like to understand and effectively execute control procedures to ensure risks are minimized and objectives are accomplished.

Duration: 2 weeks, Early 2022

  • Analyze Divisoria’s internal controls for bean collection
  • Based on analysis work with the members and staff to develop an internal control system to support beans collection management/accounting
