Job Description

This is a project/limited term position, unless otherwise amended or terminated as deliverables within this project are completed.

The Media Management Operations Specialist is a specialized, hands-on technical role responsible for the processing, management, quality control, organization, storage, and lifecycle of media assets supporting network broadcast, sports, news, and production operations.

Job Duties:

  • Execute and monitor media ingest, transcoding, transfer, QC, archive, restoration, export, and distribution workflows across broadcast, post-production, and cloud-based environments.
  • Manage and organize media within MAM, AVID, Cloud systems, archive, and shared-storage systems, ensuring assets are properly processed, organized, accessible, and available within required deadlines.
  • Perform comprehensive technical and visual quality control (QC) of media, identifying issues involving video, audio, timecode, resolution, frame rate, synchronization, file integrity, metadata, and technical specifications.
  • Validate metadata, naming conventions, folder structures, media placement, and delivery specifications to ensure accuracy and compliance with established standards.
  • Monitor media storage, asset availability, retention, archive, and restoration activities in support of content lifecycle and storage-management requirements.
  • Independently troubleshoot failed or delayed ingest, transcode, transfer, archive, restoration, and delivery workflows and perform appropriate first-level corrective actions.
  • Analyze workflow failures, identify potential points of failure, gather relevant technical information, and provide detailed escalations to Engineering, Media Systems, and other technical teams when required.
  • Support time-sensitive media requirements for live events, sports, digital streaming, broadcast, and production operations.
  • Maintain accurate operational documentation and clearly communicate workflow status, technical discrepancies, risks, and escalations to appropriate stakeholders.
  • Identify opportunities to improve media-management processes, operational efficiency, and workflow reliability.
  • Collaborate with Media Operations, Sports Operations, Production, Editorial, Engineering, Media Systems, and other technical teams to resolve issues and meet critical production deadlines.
  • Adapts to fluctuating schedules, including nights, overnights, weekends, and holidays, in a high-demand, fast-paced environment.
  • Works under the direct supervision of the Sr Manager of Media Operations and is responsible for completing any other tasks as assigned by the manager.

Qualifications

Basic Requirements:

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in a production, postproduction, broadcast, or communications environment
  • Fluency in English & Spanish
  • Strong technical knowledge of broadcast media management and post-production workflows, including ingest, transcoding, QC, media movement, storage management, archive, restoration, distribution, and content lifecycle management.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with professional MAM and AVID environments, including AVID Media Composer, Interplay, Media Central Cloud UX, Media Shuttle, or comparable broadcast and post-production platforms.
  • Strong knowledge of professional video formats, codecs, resolutions, frame rates, and media specifications, including HD, UHD/4K, MXF, MOV, MP4, Apple ProRes, XAVC, and proxy media.
  • Strong understanding of cloud-based broadcast and post-production environments, including Microsoft Azure or comparable cloud technologies and the integration of cloud and on-premises media workflows.
  • Demonstrated expertise in technical and visual media QC, including the ability to identify and assess video, audio, timecode, synchronization, metadata, file-integrity, and specification-related issues.
  • Strong knowledge of media storage, metadata management, naming conventions, folder structures, asset organization, retention, archive, and restoration principles.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently troubleshoot media workflow failures, identify probable causes, perform initial corrective actions, and determine when technical escalation is required.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with an understanding of workflow dependencies and downstream impacts across editorial, production, distribution, and broadcast operations.
  • Ability to interpret technical specifications and media delivery requirements and ensure assets meet established technical and operational standards.
  • Ability to independently prioritize and manage multiple high-volume, time-sensitive workflows while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to clearly communicate technical issues to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Ability to quickly learn and develop proficiency in new broadcast, post-production, MAM, cloud, and media-management technologies.

Desired Characteristics:

  • Bachelor’s or 2-year degree in Communications or Media preferred
  • Experience in international broadcast operations or media.
  • Familiarity with broadcast and digital streaming media workflows.
  • Exceptional time management, facilitation, and organizational skills
  • Self-starter who exhibits ownership on assigned tasks and who will push for solutions that solve immediate problems while building towards long-term goals
  • Ability to multitask and work in a fast paced, dead-line driven environment
  • Accustomed to working in a team and collaborating with all levels within the organization
  • Demonstrates strong attention to detail
  • Ability to build rapport with clients and manage expectations
  • Ability to effectively be flexible in approach, and respond well to pressure

Additional Requirements:

  • This position is required to be performed on onsite from an NBCUniversal-designated worksite. 
  • Must be willing to work in the greater Miami, Florida area
  • Willingness to travel with short notice and on weekends
  • Must be 18 years or older
  • Must be willing to work flexible hours including late and/or last-minute scheduling changes in a 24/7 production work environment
  • Must be available to work (whenever necessary for show production) early mornings, evenings, overnights, holidays and weekends
  • Must have unrestricted work authorization to work in the United States.
  • Must be covered by Solutions, NBCU’s Alternative Dispute Resolution Program
