Job Description

The Rockefeller Center Operations Facilities Engineering team manages all aspects of the Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, Fire Alarm and Fire Protection (MEPS) systems for operations within the 30 Rock Campus as well as sites in Washington DC, Long Island City, NY, North Bergen, NJ and Centennial, Colorado.  The scope includes production, technical and commercial office space., encompassing approximately 2.5M square feet.

The VP Facilities Engineering & Critical Infrastructure will be responsible for the strategic leadership, reliability, resilience, and operational performance of all mission-critical infrastructure supporting the organization's technology facilities, data centers and office space.  The role is accountable for delivering world-class uptime, minimizing operational risk, optimizing costs, and ensuring compliance with all regulatory, safety, and operational standards. The VP serves as the executive owner of infrastructure reliability and business continuity across a portfolio of critical facilities.

Additionally, this individual should be able to balance the engineering aspects of the position while providing leadership, strategic insight and communication to peers and Sr. Executives. These responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Ensure the integrity and operation of the facilities critical infrastructure systems which are paramount to our operational reliability, where the goal is a 99.999% on-air performance.
  • Develop and execute the long-term critical infrastructure strategy aligned with business growth and technology requirements.
  • Establish reliability, resiliency, and sustainability objectives for all critical facilities.
  • Lead infrastructure modernization, capacity planning, and lifecycle replacement programs.
  • Ensure continuous operation of all mission-critical infrastructure, including:
    • Electrical distribution systems
    • UPS systems
    • Emergency generators
    • Chiller plants and cooling systems
    • Building Management Systems (BMS)
    • Electrical Power Monitoring Systems (EPMS)
    • Fire protection and life safety systems
  • Drive uptime and reliability programs focused on eliminating single points of failure.
  • Establish and monitor infrastructure performance through KPIs and executive dashboards.
  • Lead root cause analyses for all significant incidents and implement corrective actions.
  • Manage a union represented staff of approximately 45 engineers and electricians providing 24/7/365 coverage for multiple campuses.
  • Manage an internal NBCU team of mechanical and electrical engineers.
  • Review work tickets, staff productivity, budgets, and vendor relationships for compliance with KPI’s.
  • Develop and manage both operating and capital budgets.
  • Track and trend critical system usage and reserve capacity, providing clients with the necessary data needed to make informed business decisions and long-term planning.
  • Respond and provide solutions to critical system issues. Document and prepare appropriate incident reports.
  • Develop Method of Procedures (MOPs) and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for maintenance and required project work.
  • Provide technical assistance and support to the Fire Life Safety team, with the operation, upgrade, and maintenance of the fire alarm systems throughout the facilities.
  • Oversee all MEP projects and coordinate with the appropriate third-party engineers and contractors to execute such projects.
  • Long-term strategic planning of capital projects, including budgeting, scoping and execution.
  • Collaborate and coordinate with business units on projects throughout the facility that utilize critical infrastructure systems.
  • Oversee and schedule off hours work, either to cover major critical systems events such as system upgrades or cutovers, or to cover major broadcast events.
  • Nurture relationship and maintain an open line of communication with facility utility companies to manage/mitigate issues such as utility transients as well as coordinating utility preventative maintenance moratoriums, etc.

 

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • 15+ years’ experience in managing mission-critical infrastructure data center operations.
  • 10+ years of leadership experience.
  • Understanding of the latest technologies and design philosophies for critical systems as well as thorough knowledge of all MEPS systems.
  • Understanding of construction projects and methodologies.
  • Will require 24/7 availability to address emergencies and other unforeseen issues.
  • Must be willing to work in New York and travel as needed.  
  • Must be 18 years or older.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering preferred.
  • Ability to consistently maintain a high functionality rate in a high-pressure work environment.
  • Risk-Based Decision Making.
  • The ability to clearly articulate technical information to a variety of technical levels.
  • Hands-on field type experience is a plus.
