Job Description

NBC News is seeking sharp, versatile journalists to join our 2028 class of presidential campaign embeds. We are looking for stellar reporters with a deep knowledge of American politics and a voracious appetite for news.

You know how to build sources and earn their trust while maintaining your journalistic independence. You can work quickly in a competitive environment without sacrificing accuracy or fairness. You can identify the news in a stump speech you’ve heard dozens of times. You are eager to chase down scoops and exclusive information, ask follow-up questions, and pitch original reporting about candidates, voters and the issues shaping the election.

You are a true cross-platform journalist: comfortable shooting and editing, gathering elements for both broadcast and social media videos, filing quickly for digital and appearing on air or in social videos.

In this role, you will travel full-time with presidential candidates and/or may be temporarily relocated to live in primary states which will prove critical to the 2028 election. You will report and produce video/television and digital elements for all NBCU News Group platforms, including NBC News, NBC News NOW, NBCNews.com, and more. An intuitive grasp of social media as both a newsgathering and storytelling tool is a must.

Political embeds will be NBC News’ principal contact with the campaigns and will be responsible for editorial and element gathering while in the field. This is a 100% travel position.

Interested candidates should apply by September 25, 2026. This is a contract position through December 2028.

Job responsibilities:

  • Shoot political events, provide live transmissions, gather elements for shows/packages, monitor candidates and newsmakers across legacy, social, and new media.
  • Produce multiple daily summaries that nail the key editorial points and soundbites from the day’s political events; anticipate the following day’s storyline.
  • Spot and pitch stories; write clean, fast and accurate copy for digital platforms under tight deadlines.
  • Contribute rolling content for all platforms in a breaking news environment.
  • Field produce, coordinate live-shots and book guests for shows as needed.
  • Collaborate across all teams and platforms.
  • Appear on-air through the entire cycle as needed.
  • Represent NBC News at all times with integrity in accordance with our newsgathering policies and standards.

Qualifications

Job requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum 3 years of professional news production experience.
  • Proficiency in all aspects of production including but not limited to shooting, writing and editing stories for various NBCU platforms – which include digital, streaming and network.
  • Excellent communication, journalistic writing, and research skills.
  • Sound editorial judgment.
  • Track record of cross-team collaboration.
  • Strong grasp of the U.S. political landscape, current events and public policy.
  • Strong on-camera capability and ability to communicate complex matters with ease.
  • Proven ability to meet tight deadlines and multi-task with speed and efficacy.
  • Will adhere to all NBC News Policies and Standards, including our commitment to fair and accurate reporting as well as our policies around social media, political donations, the use of A.I. and participation in prediction markets.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Interested candidates must submit a resume/CV through nbcunicareers.com to be considered. Please also provide a brief 200-500 word cover letter and links to representative work samples, such as written pieces or links to clips, and a list of your social media accounts.
  • Must be willing and able to work flexible hours, under tight deadlines often with little or no warning (i.e. breaking news).
  • Must be willing to travel 100% of the time.
  • Must be available to work evenings, weekends and holidays.
  • Must have a valid U.S. driver’s license.
  • Must be willing to supply handles/screen names for all personal social media accounts.
