Job Description

The Position:

NBCUniversal is seeking a highly strategic, creative, and collaborative Senior Vice President, Unscripted Content to lead the full lifecycle of unscripted programming across NBC, from development through production and post-production.

This executive will help shape NBC's programming strategy, oversee a robust slate of high-profile series, and play a critical role in identifying and developing the next generation of hit franchises. The SVP will drive creative and operational excellence across the portfolio while cultivating strong relationships with production companies, talent, showrunners, and key internal stakeholders.

The ideal candidate is an experienced creative executive with deep expertise in unscripted formats and a proven track record of developing, launching, and overseeing successful television series. They will bring exceptional creative instincts, strong business acumen, and the ability to manage complex productions while delivering compelling content that resonates with audiences.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Provide senior creative leadership and strategic oversight for NBC's slate of unscripted programming from development through production, post-production, and launch.
  • Lead the development pipeline, including pitches, presentations, pilots, proof-of-concepts, step deals, first-season orders, and long-range franchise planning.
  • Identify emerging trends, talent, production partners, and creative opportunities that support NBC's programming strategy and long-term growth objectives.
  • Serve as NBC's senior liaison for assigned productions, building and maintaining relationships with production companies, executive producers, talent, representatives, and key creative partners.
  • Oversee all stages of production and post-production to ensure alignment with creative vision, network priorities, schedules, budgets, contractual obligations, and NBC's quality standards.
  • Provide strategic and creative feedback across all phases of development and production, including format development, casting, storytelling, editorial direction, visual design, music, and overall execution.
  • Champion innovative ideas and drive the evolution of existing franchises while helping to build new scalable formats and brands.
  • Attend production shoots, studio tapings, and location filming as needed to provide executive leadership and creative guidance.
  • Partner with talent, executive producers, and production teams to navigate creative, operational, and business challenges.
  • Collaborate with Marketing, Communications, Research, Programming, and Ad Sales to maximize audience engagement, franchise value, and business results.
  • Review and evaluate development and production budgets, schedules, and financial plans to ensure responsible resource allocation and operational effectiveness.
  • Ensure compliance with NBCUniversal standards, policies, legal requirements, and production guidelines.
  • Manage the flow of information, approvals, materials, and communications across departments and external partners.
  • Represent NBC and NBCUniversal within the industry to strengthen relationships and create future development and production opportunities.
  • Mentor and develop members of the Unscripted team, fostering a culture of creativity, collaboration, accountability, and inclusion.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

  • 12+ years of experience in alternative or unscripted television programming, production, development, or content strategy at a broadcast network, streaming platform, cable network, studio, or production company, with demonstrated experience overseeing programming from development through delivery.
  • Proven success developing, producing, launching, and managing high-profile alternative formats, competition series, franchise programming, and talent-driven content.
  • Significant experience overseeing multiple projects, production partners, and complex workflows simultaneously while balancing competing creative and business priorities.
  • Experience managing production budgets, schedules, and operational planning to ensure efficient execution and delivery.
  • Proven ability to build and maintain strong relationships with talent, agents, managers, production companies, executive producers, creators, and other key industry stakeholders.
  • Experience collaborating effectively across Marketing, Digital, Communications, Research, Programming, Ad Sales, and other business functions.
  • Deep understanding of competition formats, reality programming, studio entertainment, game shows, live productions, and event programming.

  • Demonstrated success building, mentoring, and leading high-performing teams.

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience preferred.

 

Additional Requirements:

Hybrid: This position currently has a hybrid schedule, which requires contributing from the office a minimum of four days per week. The Company reserves the right to change in-office requirements at any time.

Salary range: $350,000 - $425,000 (bonus and long-term incentive eligible)
