Job Description
Leads the implementation and oversight of Environmental programs across the UK project development, ensuring compliance with UK environmental legislation and alignment with Universal standards. Oversees environmental requirements across all project phases, with an initial focus on contractor and supply chain performance to ensure effective implementation of environmental controls, standards, and permit conditions. Responsible for key environmental areas including air emissions, regulated waste, chemical management, and water quality, ensuring compliance with applicable regulations and corporate standards. Provides technical expertise to project teams, Operating Divisions, and stakeholders, supporting environmental compliance, permitting, regulatory engagement, and both new and re-commissioning projects. Monitors environmental performance through audits, inspections, and reporting, and supports transition to operations through ongoing compliance and governance post-opening.
- Supports implementation of environmental programs, policies, and procedures across all project phases, ensuring compliance with UK environmental legislation, permitting requirements, and Universal standards. Contributes to the development and continuous improvement of environmental processes and controls.
- Leads Environmental Affairs coordination across design and construction phases, overseeing contractor environmental performance and ensuring environmental requirements, standards, and mitigation measures are effectively implemented and maintained on site.
- Establishes and enforces environmental expectations for contractors and the supply chain, ensuring clear accountability for compliance with environmental requirements, standards, and permit conditions. Monitors performance through audits, inspections, and reporting, and drives corrective actions where needed to ensure adherence and continuous improvement, including oversight of critical environmental areas such as emissions, waste, chemicals, and water.
- Supports environmental compliance and permitting activities, including engagement with UK regulatory bodies (e.g., Environment Agency, Natural England, Local Authorities). Contributes to environmental planning processes, including Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA), and supports timely submission and maintenance of required permits and approvals.
- Conducts environmental audits, inspections, and performance monitoring activities, including KPI tracking and compliance reporting. Oversees environmental incident management processes, including reporting, investigation support, root cause analysis, and implementation of corrective and preventive actions to drive continuous improvement.
- Partners with project teams, contractors, and internal and external stakeholders to promote environmental awareness and ensure consistent application of requirements. Prepares and communicates environmental performance updates, risks, and compliance status to leadership, and supports transition to operations through environmental readiness, ongoing compliance, and governance post-opening.
- Understand and actively participate in Environmental, Health & Safety responsibilities by following established UDX policy, procedures, training, and team member involvement activities.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Management, Environmental Science, Chemical Engineering, or a related field preferred; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Working knowledge of UK environmental legislation and regulatory frameworks, including permitting, environmental protection, and compliance requirements.
- Understanding of environmental management systems (e.g., ISO 14001), risk assessment processes, and compliance frameworks.
