Academic Year Internship Program Details
Program Dates: September 21, 2026 – April 23, 2027
Time Commitment: 16-24 hours per week. Exact schedule to be determined based on business need. We will do our best to accommodate course schedules.
Format: Opportunities listed will require an intern to work from Needham, MA.

NBCUniversal Local is NBCUniversal’s local media division that delivers English and Spanish-speakers and bilingual audiences in 31 U.S. markets and Puerto Rico, the very best in local sports, news, weather, consumer and investigative reporting, and lifestyle entertainment across any platform and screen. NBCUniversal Local is comprised of three individual media groups including the NBC Owned Television Stations, the NBC Sports Regional Networks and the Telemundo Station Group. NBCUniversal Local’s stations and networks serve diverse audiences and communities across linear, streaming, OTT, digital web, mobile and audio, and cable platforms and work together to keep local audiences informed anytime and anywhere.
Areas of placement may include, but are not limited to:
- Creative Services/Social Media: The Social Media intern will support station marketing strategies and initiatives across various digital platforms, including social media and YouTube. Responsibilities include story selection and editing of social videos for NBC10 accounts, collaborating with the Programming Department on content for The Hub Today and community initiatives, creating daily YouTube thumbnails, attending on-site events to capture photos and videos for social media, and brainstorming creative ideas to engage followers and elevate marketing messages across all platforms.
- Digital: The Digital internship involves creating and adapting content for digital platforms, including pitching, reporting, and writing news and feature stories, as well as producing and editing video pieces for social media in collaboration with digital staff and on-air reporters. Interns will transform linear broadcasts into short-form content, identify opportunities for interactive engagement and data visualization, and cut video for use across websites, apps, and social channels. Additionally, the role includes shadowing various newsroom professionals and assisting with social media management.
- NBC 10 and Telemundo Boston News: The NBC 10 and Telemundo internships offer hands-on experience in the editorial process, including planning, researching, newsgathering, writing, and editing. Interns will learn both editorial and technical aspects of news production, shadow producers and assignment editors, and create individual news stories for demo reels and online platforms. Additional responsibilities include participating in studio anchor sessions, assisting with viewer calls and tips, and contributing to special projects.
- Programming: The Programming intern will support The Hub Today, a daily lifestyle program, by learning to write on-air scripts, produce segments, and assist with field shoots. Responsibilities include managing on-site guests, running the teleprompter, editing video and social media content, planning live shots, researching community features, and writing web articles. The role also involves helping with the logistics, data, and activations of community campaigns.
- Sports: The Sports intern will collaborate with content producers across social, digital, linear, and audio platforms. The role involves hands-on experience in content creation, including shooting and editing video, designing graphics, executing social media content, creating motion graphics, conducting research, archiving feeds, and writing copy.
Qualifications
Basic Requirements:
- Must be actively enrolled in a degree-granting program at an accredited institution during the entire duration of the program (September 2026 through April 2027). December 2026 graduates are not eligible for this Academic Year Internship Program.
- Current class standing of sophomore or above (30 credits).
- Must be presently authorized to work for any employer in the United States and must not require work visa sponsorship from NBCUniversal now or in the future to retain authorization to work in the United States.
- Must be available to work 16-24 hours per week from September 21, 2026 – April 23, 2027.
- Must be willing to work in Needham, MA.
For further clarification, candidates currently on any student or exchange visa (e.g. F-1 CPT, F-1 OPT, J-1, M-1) are not eligible to apply unless they will be able to change or adjust to another status that grants work authorization without NBCUniversal sponsorship.
NBCUniversal is an E-Verify company, requiring all employees to have an active Social Security number. Any candidate receiving an internship offer must complete I-9 form with Social Security number within 3 days of hire.
Desired Characteristics:
- Students with class standing of junior or above preferred.
- Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above.
- Pursuing a degree in Journalism or Broadcast Journalism, Digital/New Media Studies, Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, Production, English, Social Media, or Research.
- Bilingual in Spanish and English strongly preferred (written and verbal).
- Commitment to building an inclusive work environment.
- Ability to multitask and highly organized.
- Excellent verbal and written communication.
- Previous internship experience within a corporate setting.
- Experience with Social Media Platforms, Final Cut Pro, Adobe Creative Suite, and SEO tools such as Google Trends.
The hourly rate for student interns is $19.00.
