Job Description
As a Media Traffic Control Manager, you will be responsible for the set-up, trafficking and coordination of transmission facilities for the use of all NBC Universal entities – primarily NBC News programming.
Responsibilities:
- Booking and coordinating both satellite, fiber and IP feeds supporting NBC Network News, Sports and Entertainment, along with Streaming services such as NBC News Now and Peacock.
- Live control room show support including remote trouble-shooting and any necessary re-routing prior or even during the on-air show. Also includes routing to and from NBC Bureaus
- Set Audio/Video levels to spec and verify signal quality of remotes prior to air.
- Knowledge in booking, coordination, and understanding of streaming technology such as LiveU, Makito, or VideoShip and providers such as LTN, TVU, Videolink EIP among others.
- Work closely with producers, technical and production managers, and NBC News Assignment Desk regarding booking facilities both international and domestic.
- Close interaction with Vendors, Field, and NBC Bureau teams in remote signal acquisition
- Familiarity & fluency with scheduling and control systems such as ScheduAll & Dataminer
- Procure and assign both vendor and in-house satellite trucks for remote origination
- Remote Interface based control of technical infrastructure: including satellite receivers, decoders, router control, spectrum analyzers as well as video/audio adjustments
- Coordinate efforts with non-NBC news agencies in organizing pools or sharing resources.
Qualifications
Required Characteristics:
- BA in Broadcasting, or Communications required.
- Minimum 4 years related experience
- Ability to make decisions and solve problems expeditiously in support of live programming
- Experienced in live television production, understanding of critical deadlines with respect to making air. Familiarity with Newsgathering process and current events is a plus
- Strong understanding of A/V levels, transmission gear, control software and signal flow
- Familiarity with Satellite and Terrestrial television facilities, both foreign and domestic
- Must be available and willing to work all shifts, including weekends, holidays, and overnights - sometimes with short notice. Occasional Travel may be involved
- Ability to both work from home and the office is also required as this is a hybrid position
Desired Characteristics
- Knowledge of both traditional transmission technologies and equipment. as well as newer IP, social media or personal device-based streaming platforms
- Ability to multi-task; fulfill concurrent live control room and news coverage transmission requests along multiple programming platforms
- Familiarity with compression schemes and transport stream delivery
- Knowledge of IP streaming applications and concepts
- Exude professional, calm demeanor in a demanding, fast-paced environment.
- Logical thinker with ability to follow signal flow; ability to perform basic troubleshooting
- Understanding of editorial processes and ability to react to editorial priorities
- Experience with ScheduAll or any M&C based systems along with LiveU Central a plus.

Hybrid: This position currently has a hybrid schedule, which requires contributing from the office a minimum of four days per week. The Company reserves the right to change in-office requirements at any time.
