The Director, Outside Counsel Management & Operations, Global Legal Operations & Innovation plays a critical role in supporting the strategic, operational, and technological effectiveness of NBCU Legal. This role partners closely with Legal leadership and cross‑functional stakeholders to drive efficiency, enable smart decision‑making, and advance the function’s operational maturity.

Reporting to the SVP & Chief Counsel, Global Legal Operations & Innovations, this role is responsible for supporting day to day outside counsel operations and enhancing the end‑to‑end lifecycle of outside counsel engagement, including budgeting, forecasting, vendor management, performance analytics, and operational process design. The position works closely with Finance, Operations and Technology (O&T), HR, and Comcast partners and serves as a key advisor to senior Legal leaders on spend optimization, resource allocation, and outside counsel strategy.

Key Responsibilities:

Outside Counsel & Spend Management

  • Support management of the Legal function’s outside counsel and vendor spend, including budgeting, forecasting, accruals, and variance analysis in partnership with Finance
  • Assist with development and execution of outside counsel governance frameworks, including engagement models, rate structures, matter staffing expectations, and performance metrics
  • Support RFPs, panel management initiatives, and other strategic sourcing efforts related to outside counsel and legal vendors
  • Partner with Legal leadership to analyze spend trends and identify opportunities to improve efficiency, optimize resourcing, and drive value from external providers
  • Assist with relationship management of outside counsel and legal vendors, including coordination, operational support, and performance tracking

Technology, Analytics & Reporting

  • Support the implementation, optimization, and day‑to‑day use of legal spend and matter management technology solutions, including system enhancements, process documentation, and user adoption, often in collaboration with Comcast Legal and Technology stakeholders
  • Analyze financial and operational data related to matters, vendors, and spend to support resource allocation, forecasting, and strategic decision‑making
  • Partner with Finance, O&T, and other stakeholders to ensure spend and matter data is collected accurately and made available in a timely manner for reporting and analytics

Strategic & Operational Support

  • Assist in Legal function financial planning activities, including annual budget cycles and ad‑hoc analyses
  • Support development of the Legal department’s strategic plan by benchmarking outside counsel and spend practices against peer legal organizations
  • Support Legal leadership, including periodic agenda development and logistics for Senior Legal Team meetings
  • Lead and manage special projects related to legal operations, spend management, and vendor strategy as assigned

People Leadership

  • Provide line management for the E-billing Coordinator in supporting Outside Counsel Management activities

Qualifications

Basic Requirements:

  • B.A. or B.S. degree required
  • 7+ years of experience working in the outside counsel management and legal spend management space, either in‑house at a large, complex organization or at a large law firm, with demonstrated experience supporting international and cross‑border billing and spend management
  • Experience supporting or managing outside counsel spend, legal budgets, and vendor operations
  • Proficiency with T360/Tymetrix and other e‑billing and matter management platforms is required, including hands‑on experience supporting billing workflows, data quality, reporting, and user adoption
  • Experience in legal operations and/or implementing technology solutions related to legal spend, matter management, or vendor management
  • In‑depth experience working in an analytical, data‑driven, and entrepreneurial environment, with a strong focus on financial, operational analysis, and reporting capabilities
  • Demonstrated project management experience is essential, including managing cross‑functional initiatives and multiple stakeholders
  • Solid analytical, problem‑solving, and communication skills, with the ability to clearly present financial and operational insights to senior leadership
  • Proven ability to manage, influence, and align internal and external stakeholders, including attorneys, finance partners, technology teams, and outside counsel
  • Proactive, entrepreneurial mindset with sound business judgment and strategic thinking
  • Exceptional organizational skills and ability to prioritize, execute efficiently, and adapt as workloads fluctuate
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, lookups, charts, and formulas), as well as Outlook, Word, and PowerPoint; comfortable working with legal and financial systems
  • MBA or JD preferred but not required

This position currently has a hybrid schedule, which requires contributing from the office a minimum of four days per week. The Company reserves the right to change in-office requirements at any time.

Salary range: $110,000 - $140,000 (bonus and long-term incentive eligible)
