Universal Television Entertainment is responsible for world-class television entertainment. Job Description
Come be a member of the dynamic and tight-knit team that provides full-service legal support for NBCUniversal’s late night, specials and live events programming (which includes such flagship properties as Saturday Night Live, The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Late Night With Seth Meyers, The Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, NBC’s live musicals, The Las Culturistas Culture Awards, NBCUniversal’s iconic holiday programming, and many others). The work involves providing practical and strategic guidance in an extremely faced-paced setting throughout all stages of the production process, with a focus on vetting show concepts and creative materials, engaging in risk analysis, as well as negotiating and drafting a wide variety of agreements. This role will report to the head of legal affairs for late night, specials, and live events and will collaborate closely with many functions and senior leadership across NBCUniversal. Given the nature of the programming that this team supports, weekend, holiday, and evening work will occasionally be required.
Responsibilities:
- Negotiate, draft, review and interpret a variety of deals, including talent, writer, producer, and director agreements, licenses, rights agreements, production services contracts, as well as other documentation
- As a member of the production team, conduct pre-broadcast review of scripts and creative materials, with a focus on defamation, intellectual property, fair use, music clearance, and privacy in the comedy context, overseeing all production legal issues
- Advise teams across the NBCUniversal portfolio on legal issues pertaining to late night, specials, and live events, with an emphasis on practical and strategic risk assessment and creative problem solving
- Identify and implement improvements to forms and processes in collaboration with colleagues across the legal function
- Handle other matters as needed
Qualifications
Basic Requirements:
- Member of New York bar or other U.S. state bar and JD or LLM degree from an accredited law school
- 5+ years of entertainment, media law, intellectual property and/or other relevant experience with in-house experience strongly preferred
Desired Characteristics:
- Demonstrated ability to approach complex legal scenarios in a thoughtful and analytic fashion, in a positive and practical manner, and in a fast-paced environment
- Expertise in media law and content vetting with substantial experience advising creatives on defamation, privacy, copyright/fair use matters
- Excellent drafting/negotiating skills and familiarity with a wide array of entertainment transactions
- Ability to structure and draft agreements independently and efficiently
- Superb communication skills with the ability to build a rapport with constituencies at all levels and present complex issues to leadership in a concise, compelling, and digestible manner
- Strong working knowledge of major social media platforms
- Nimble multitasker who can manage a variety of projects on a tight schedule
- A true team player who is eager to work collaboratively with colleagues
- Passion for comedy, pop-culture, and live performance

- Hybrid: This position has been designated as hybrid, generally contributing from the office a minimum of four days per week. The Company reserves the right to change in-office requirements at any time.

Salary range: $140,000 - $170,000 (bonus and long-term incentive eligible)
