Job Description

NBCUniversal has an opening for a Staff Technical Director supporting NBC News Now.

The Staff Technical Director will prepare effects and transitions and operate a production switcher to deliver a complete, multi-layered program with video and graphic elements live for air.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with Directors, Producers, and technical staff to execute live and taped multi-camera television productions

• Offer technical and creative solutions to support and realize the production vision for air

• Build, organize, and maintain switcher effects, snapshots, transitions, and specialty wipes

• Create, document, and maintain operational workflows and technical documentation

• Test and prepare production systems and equipment for on-air use

• Prepare, route, and manage video and audio sources for live productions

• Switch live programs in real time per Director’s instructions

• Serve as crew chief as assigned, providing leadership and technical guidance

• Work closely with management and Engineering to ensure all production equipment meets operational and client expectations

Qualifications

Eligibility Requirements

• Must be available for all shifts, including weekends and holidays. Must be willing to work additional hours beyond scheduled shift with little or no notice

• Must have unrestricted work authorization to work in the United States

• Must be 18 years or older

Required Characteristics

• Minimum 3 years of experience Technical Directing live television productions

• Demonstrated expertise Technical Directing multiple program formats and styles, including live news and special events

• Extensive hands-on experience with Sony Production Switchers

• Proven ability to think quickly, communicate clearly, and keep pace with fast-moving live productions

• Strong client service and interpersonal skills with the ability to handle pressure in an on-air environment

• Advanced PC computer skills

• Excellent troubleshooting and problem resolution skills

• Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment

• Hands-on experience with production automation systems, including Sony ELC and Ross Overdrive

• Demonstrated experience coding, configuring, and building automation templates, effects, and show files from scratch

• Working knowledge of automated control room workflows, signal routing, and system-level design for live television

Desired Characteristics

• Extensive knowledge of live TV production processes and control room workflows

• Experience supporting automated and hybrid manual/automated production environments

• Ability to contribute to workflow optimization and automation best practices

• Strong documentation discipline and attention to operational detail

Required On-Site: This position is required to be performed full-time from an NBCUniversal-designated worksite.
