Comcast NBCUniversal has announced its intent to create a new publicly traded company ('Versant') comprised of most of NBCUniversal's cable television networks, including USA Network, CNBC, MSNBC, Oxygen, E!, SYFY and Golf Channel along with complementary digital assets Fandango, Rotten Tomatoes, GolfNow, GolfPass, and SportsEngine. The well-capitalized company will have significant scale as a pure-play set of assets anchored by leading news, sports and entertainment content. The spin-off is expected to be completed during 2025.

Job Description

The Research Analyst will conduct background research that informs both interviews with company executives and written opinion segments for CNBC’s Mad Money program. The individual will also contribute to Mad Money host Jim Cramer’s other programming, including the live Squawk on the Street program and the CNBC Investing Club subscription newsletter and member program.

What you'll do:
• Prepare Mad Money host Jim Cramer for interviews with public and private company executives by compiling articles and research about the company, writing suggested copy for interview introductions, and preparing detailed sample questions for the interview.

• Contribute to Mad Money opinion segments by conducting background research and writing a compelling argument in the form of a detailed outline or a rough draft that can be adapted by the show’s writers into a script.

• Participate in the preparation for Mad Money host Jim Cramer’s additional morning obligations, including co-hosting the live Squawk on the Street program and his work for the CNBC Investing Club. This includes reviewing all relevant news, earnings reports, deal activity, and analyst research for that day.

• Assist the Mad Money Senior Data & Research Producer with ad hoc research projects, including work for segments on individual companies, industries and specific sectors, and other key market themes. 

• Contribute in a highly Collaborate setting with show producers to identify themes and threads to help tell compelling market stories.

Qualifications

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Strong experience with and/or interest in financial markets, including and especially equity markets and individual stock investing.
  • Familiarity with individual companies’ financial statements, earnings reports, SEC Filings, and other key sources of information, including sell-side equity research.
  • Understanding of market structure, including major equity indices, as well as notable exchange traded funds (ETFs), industries and segments.
  • Ability to use financial data sources, such as FactSet, Refiniv Workspace, and S&P Capital IQ Pro.
  • Willingness to accommodate a demanding production schedule and flexibility to work weekends and some holidays when and as required

Desired Characteristics

  • 3+ years experience in equity research, portfolio management and/or financial journalism.
  • Undergraduate finance or related degree; professional certifications (i.e. CFA) a plus.
