Job Description

The Senior Controls Engineer is responsible for implementing sustaining solutions, as well as performance of design modifications to Ride and Show system elements to improve safety, reliability, operational readiness, diagnostics and serviceability.

The successful Senior Controls Engineer works in a fast-paced environment; and is adaptable, cooperative, enthusiastic, optimistic, meets new people easily, dependable, consistent, patient, diligent, attentive to details, and is self-disciplined.

The Technical Services Controls Engineering department is responsible for sustaining existing ride and show systems, as well as participation in design reviews, installation and commissioning, and validation of new ride and show systems designed by outside vendors.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:                          

  • Safety-related control system design, implementation, validation, and sustainment; along with all associated design and documentation deliverables
  • Managing assigned projects from conceptualization, scoping and contracting, through design, fabrication, installation, commissioning, validation, and closeout
  • Preparation of scopes of work and other contractual documents for engineering projects
  • Management of control system projects and vendors
  • Review of engineering design, installation/implementation, and validation of systems developed by others
  • Generation of maintenance procedure and manual updates, as well as preparation and conductance of maintenance training on controls equipment
  • New attraction design oversight to ensure that designs are safe, reliable, sustainable, maintainable, and compliant with all applicable standards and specifications
  • Supporting downtime recovery efforts (performing troubleshooting and fault analysis) when necessary
  • Provides guidance, mentorship, and training to more junior-level engineers and engineering technicians

Qualifications

EDUCATION:  Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:

  • Strong critical thinking and complex troubleshooting skills
  • Strong documentation skills
  • Strong communication skills
  • High degree of tact & diplomacy to obtain favorable decisions or maintain good will
  • Generation of risk assessments and associated documentation (safety requirement specification, FMEA, etc.)
  • Experience with Rockwell Automation products, software, and communication protocols (legacy and current)
  • Strong understanding and experience with:
    • Motor control and VFDs
    • Closed-loop motion control and servo systems
    • PLCs, PACs, and HMIs
    • Hydraulic and pneumatic systems and components
    • Safety-rated components, systems, and safety-related parts of control systems

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:

  • Experience with:
    • Network systems and components (e.g., switches, routers, etc.)
    • Data centers and server-based HMI systems
    • Version control systems (e.g., Git and Mercurial)
    • Python development
    • Process control
    • Audio, video, and lighting control systems
    • Beckhoff IPCs and TwinCAT automation software
  • Experience in the theme park industry
  • Knowledgeable in UL 508A, NEC, NFPA, and ASTM F24 standards
  • Knowledgeable in relevance functional safety standards (ISO 12100, 13849-1, 13849-2, IEC 62061 and 60204-1)
